    why?
because it's been rejected by everybody so-far.
short of sending the police to peoples houses with install disks - torrents are the only thing they didnt do yet.
besides, Linux is distributed by torrent - why shouldnt m$ try it.

You can get the damn ISO straight from them!

desert-rat: For the same reason don't download it from a torrent site!
There is enough spyware in Windows 10 as it is, you don't need someone else adding their own!

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

You can't use a Win7 or Win8 key to activate that ISO.
But if you wait till early November when the Threshold 2 update is released that will be added!
As of now if you want to take part in the "insider preview" testing phase you can use this build which does accept the Win7 and Win8 keys directly:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...iderpreviewiso

Of course you can also right now install a genuine copy of Win7 or Win8, and then upgrade that to Win10 which will result in the OS having a genuine license as well as the upgrade is free.

I have converted all of my XP machines to OEM versions using SLP strings in the bios.

yes as you say the iso is not the issue its the activation side of things after 30 days windows 10 has deleted some of windows 8 files so wont allow downgrade.I have just asked him too look for partions etc hes going to have a look and get back to me, in one way im glad ive stuck with windows 7 pro i have windows 8.1 on a laptop i repaired but still prefer 7 if im honest.

Maybe the laptop has a hidden recovery partition that has not been erased and he can recover Win8 back?

luckily hes not using this for any car related programmes/readers etc this is his home laptop and yes he has a old xp/win 7 laptop for his code readers elm321 etc(same what i do too be honest). He seems one of these guys who likes to keep every thing legit though so no doubt he will pay for a windows 8 key.I have read on various forums in the last hour it dosnt seem you can revert back as after 30 days it deletes some windows 8 folders etc.

he can try - m$ is not being clear so that's all people can do.
worst case, he can just use a pir8 version.

btw, he should have known better, car software is known to be very picky and most engineers have to use 32bit xp to run the usb interfaced tools.

Yes, that's the nature of how Windows activation works, and it's been like that since Windows XP.
Use Windows 2000 if you don't like it!

Look, I realize you love to read and post about every conspiracy theory there exists and then some more.
But fact of the matter is that while Windows 10 has some flaws you will not come across them since you have not been using the OS for a year like me!
Windows 10 is free, and if you have a SLIC activated Win7 they could never deactivate that no matter what they dream up in redmond.
Because it never goes online to verify it's key, it's called offline activation for a reason!

It's even been tested to remove the SLIC key from the BIOS after a successful upgrade from Win7 > 10: the OS stays activated because the HWID does not change!

    And why a new thread?

EDIT: Moved the "new" thread "even more win10 stuff" here.

The activation details are the same as they where for WinXP/7/8
I.e. you may change hardware, but not mainboard, unless you have a retail license.
A retail license is transferable, an OEM license is not, nothing new here.
