          Re: Win 8?

My thoughts exactly. Considering that Windows 7 and Windows Hate are both eligible for a free upgrade (if you're using windows 8) or downgrade (from windows 7) to windows 10, there is absolutely no excuse to go from 7 to 8 now.

I even read that M$ will allow free upgrades to 10 if your copy of 7 is illegal.... M$ saw the writing on the wall, the OS race is over.... 1995 is long gone, plenty of viable alternative today that are free, so MS had to jump on the bandwagon and give the OS away and charge for apps and features instead...

Yup. I've heard that too. Pretty much a free legit OS for the pirates.

Now, they just need to drop the cost of Office a bit. I mean, $150 for Office H&S when OpenOffice or LibreOffice has at least 90% of the functionality for free? No, thanks.

I do wonder, though, whether they actually make you install the upgrade to Windows 10 then and there. What I wouldn't mind doing is getting the upgrade, but not installing it until M$ drops support for windows 7 in 2020 (or at least until they release a service pack or two for it).

Windows is dead, OS² is the future.
                Bill Gates told me so.

Ah, OK. So M$ are actually giving away pirated versions of their own OS?

MS has released a windows update that advises the user about Windows 10 when it becomes available. The description is just the usual: "Install this update to resolve issues in Windows". Of course! The 'issue' being resolved is the fact that the computer is running windows 8!

someone should write some "malware" that overrides that so it does a network-install of Linux

10 fixes a lot of the interface problems but i'm pretty sure has like the required outlook.com email address required just to install. Unless the final release gives you workarounds for such things, I won't be upgrading

but back to the OP, with the price, description and everything, that does seem like a legitimate copy

beside i always use Amazon for my purchases and never had a disappointment.

I recently had to pay for two one year subscriptions to National Geographic I never bought as result of using Amazon and had to get a new bank card. A company is only as good as its worst employee. Just because you haven't been bit yet doesn't make you immune.

Well you did come across as touting Amazon and all I'm saying is they can't be trusted anymore than any other online shopping source. They all have potential risk. Unfortunately these days we can't buy all of the things we want to in a physical store using cash and getting a receipt. We end up paying for the convenience of technology in ways we shouldn't have to.

@ Uranium, you can set up Windows 8/8.1 without an Outlook address.

@SteveNielsen, surely if you didn't make the purchase the credit card company cover your losses ?

It was a debit card for a checking account and no they did not cover my loss because it was under $25 or some such typical bank bullshit and I said fuck it. Another case of the poor paying the rich and/or corrupt. Nothing has changed in the entire history of human society and economics and it never will.
