    Lifetime of RAM connectors

Anyone know what the average lifetime (insert/remove cycles) of RAM sockets is? I have a couple systems that are used for testing, and I'm concerned about wearing out the RAM slots from repeated use. I already have a board with worn out PS/2 connectors.

And I'm curious what non-server chipsets/boards support registered RAM. I know the Shuttle AK31 supposedly did, but I never tried it.

I have yet to wear out any memory sockets. Even old boards' sockets work fine. Those PS2 sockets tend to wear out more for whatever reason.

BTW, if you need replacement PS2 sockets I have a set here you can have for the cost of shipping + $1 for gas to the PO They are used but in good condition, the sockets look practically brand new.

Good question...IDK. But one could use a cleaner, conductant, lubricant like http://www.deoxit.com/

My test stick of PC133 and PC3200 have been in many hundreds of boards.... still good. I can see the marks on the tabs from all the insertions and removals, still no problems.

If you do have issues, try going over the traces with a soft pencil eraser. It's helped me out a couple times.

You know there's something wrong when you open up a PSU and are glad to find Teapos.

Or a fiberglass pencil, which works better than a eraser.

the gold is real thin on most contacts.
              i use a deoxit pen.much safer.

I was actually referring to the motherboard sockets, not the ram contacts. But I usually just use a bit of denatured alcohol to clean those. I also have some CAIG Pro-Gold that I use of there is evidence of corrosion.

Pro-Gold is not a cleaner. It will not remove oxidation.
I use Pro-Gold on all battery contacts..Stuff really works.

I used it on an RJ11 connector for a cheap security camera that had been exposed to the weather and corroded. I was constantly having problems with it, but after I put Pro-Gold on it, it never had issues again, even after getting rained on for months

Crimping CAT7 connectors high failure rates
                      by CapLeaker
I’ve had and got a few projects using quality CAT6 and CAT7 23awg solid copper, shielded, direct burial cable. Each time I use CAT7 connectors, most of them fail making good connections to the 4 wire pairs after crimping. I tied a couple of crimping tools, thinking my crimper is bad. Also used different CAT7 RJ45 connector manufacturers. Same thing. I kinda calculate 6 connectors to make one cable!
Get this: I use CAT5 or CAT6 connectors, no problem. Very rare I have a miss crimp with those. So what gives?! ...

                      RJ45 Block Diagram / Schematic

RJ45 network connectors are most commonly found at either end of an Ethernet (wired internet) connection. At first glance, they appear similar to the familiar telephone plugs and jacks which connect landlines to walls or switchboards. However, RJ45 connectors are typically slightly larger.

The term RJ45 connector is widely used today to describe both male RJ45 plugs and female RJ45 sockets. The plugs, sometimes called modular connectors, are usually found on the end of Ethernet cables. The sockets or jacks are generally embedded in the device...

                      Are USB C connectors standard
                      by Eniaro
I have a number of laptops with damaged USB-C connectors.
I wonder if I can buy a few replacement connectors from Mouser to keep, as it seems like the wafer in the middle breaks easily and oftentimes causes shorts.
I do know there are multiple connectors out there, but I'm curious to know which are most commonly used and how can I identify and purchase the correct ones.
I purchased USB mini-B connectors in the past, only to find out that the connector was flipped (Lenovo smh).

Desoldering - soldering BGA chip close plastic mini fpc connectors ?
                      by corrize
Hello, I need your advise please ? I need to remove and replace the BGA black chip with fpc connectors around. The PCB is small, from camera.

There is no plastic component directly under, on the other face, (only fuse and oscillator I can remove if they are sensitives to heat), but there is a lot of very small smd components I don't want to desolder by mistake.

                      I have :

                      - bismuth

How to clean fpc connectors oxydated ?
                      by corrize
Hello, do you know if it is possible to clean oxydated fpc connectors until it back brilliant please ?
I know the best is to replace, but sometime micro fpc are very little oxydated and very hard (or unable) to find as new. So, there is may be a chemical product for that ?
I use vinegar for rust on metal screw or little metal pieces and I finish with WD-40 for protect, else the rust can come back. That works pretty good.
I not yet tryed on connector. Do you have a good method please ?
