    Re: Vista compatibilities.

    UAC can be disabled, it is quite easy... Then you will have to change a registery key or disable the security center because it will be popping up telling you UAC is disabled, sigh

    It's a bit more difficult to make a real administrator account, but I did that too, a month later my Vista install got corrupted... I see some patches where released by MS today so maybe data corruptions issues have become smaller now...

      Re: Vista compatibilities.

      Thanks Stevo for the feedback on it

      Well, about 3 or 4 weeks ago I installed Vista for my friend using my
      copy, without entering a CD key or activating it. This was to see how it went
      before they actually spent the $220 on the real copy at the stores.

      If I remember correctly, the period that we are allowed to use it for was 30
      days before having to enter a CD key and activating it, after that the PC is

      locked completely and cannot be logged in at all.... he never got to that
      stage though.

      Within a day, he was begging me to get rid of Vista because half his games
      didn't work and his video editing software (Pinnacle 9 series)
      refused to work with Vista.

      I had to re-install his copy of XP back onto his PC.
      It seems like Vista is full of issues at the moment.

      Windows Vista Home Premium came with my Dell laptop and my favorite
      games won't work with it.

      I sort of vaguely remembered, I think it has to run home to billy and report thats why I wasn't sure about how long or if you get a grace period.

      Anyway yeah its been cracked from what I read, but at this point seems a lot ain't interested anyway.

      I guess at some point if you want to stay with M$ you are going to have to buy it.

      but seems better to wait a bit and let it mature
      (read as bug fixes oem drivers etc and service packs)
      XP had it teething problems too

      Trouble is most big makers are pushing Vista so I think you basically stuck with the home basic or (preferably) home premium version on a new box
      (maybe the likes of Dell will give you an online choice of Vista or XP)
      But at Hardly Normal's etc your probably going to be stuck taking a box with Vista

      Id hate to be in the computer game, now guess there are a few getting grief over it...but on the plus side you get to rip it off the HDD and put XP on for a price

      Like I said I probably wouldn't mind it and it probably does have some worth while improvements....
      (the downside more DRM and Anti piracy crap, which is fair enough but for legit users and sellers it just creates more work I think.)

      like I said no experience with it and at this point not so sure I want any

      Cheers

        ECS got his RAID driver, but I think he's safe with video, audio, and integrated 10/100 networking drivers coming from Vista.

        I'd say he's good to go.

        I have a PCCHIPS M955G (similar to ECS PM800-M2) and my PCCHIPS board had no compatibility problems with Vista. The three main drivers (video, sound, and built in 10/100 networking) were already installed by Vista. I know someone who has a ECS PM800-M2 motherboard and has no problems with Vista.

          Re: Vista compatibilities.

          A new VISTA wrinkle: many customers (State of California, etc) are buying Vista equipped machines, saving the licenses and immediately installing XP.

          Microsoft is now invalidating Vista licenses that aren't activated within a time frame....

          Now there is great customer support.... this is how you say f*ck you in binary...

          Oh man... the new Macs run Windows apps, VMware, Unix. I don't even own one, but I have a feeling Vista will be sinking the Microsoft ship.

            Re: Vista compatibilities.

            SIS is listing drivers for XP on their site so I wouldn't be so sure about Vista having the drivers already.

            Except:
            Most of the drivers aren't an SIS issue in the first place.

            The LAN chip is Realtek.
            So is the sound chip. (Realtek)
            He's not using the SIS video, he has an add-in card.

            ~~~
            That pretty much leaves the basic chipset drivers for ATA and USB and ??? as the only issues. - I don't think those have changed much in the last few chipsets.
              Activation of Management Engine after exchange Z590 chipset - ASUS PRIME Z590M-PLUS
              by DynaxSC
              Hi, i have an ASUS PRIME Z590M-PLUS board, which had an shorted Z590 chipset. I have succesfully exchanged the chipset to a factory new one, however there is a serious problem with the Intel Management Engine (later on: ME) not beeing activated after the chipset device replacement.
              For lower chipset families (on ASUS boards) it worked to program the oldest bios version into the SPI rom, and the bios had activated the Management Engine itself by default - there was a message on the screen prior booting - "BIOS is updating Management Engine ..... . Do not shut down to prevent...
              ASUS ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING - M.2_2 port not working correctly with SAMSUNG SSD980 1TB NVME SSD
              by DynaxSC
              Hi,
              I have an really very weired issue with ASUS ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING.
              Some NVME (PCIe) SSD's are not working correctly in the second M.2 socket. An example of it is the SAMSUNG SSD980 1TB NVME SSD.
              Some other NVME (I have only smaller ones) disk do work without any problem, also SAMSUNG disks, eg an MZVPV128HDGM-0000.
              The behaviour is also really very strange, i.e.:
              • The disk shows always up in BIOS - so it is recognized, so far so good
              • POST-ing with this disk with fresh Windows 24H2 installation (done in the M.2_1 socket) in the M.2_2 socket
              ...
              Acer Aspire A515-52G-53PU crashing during windows installation
              by AppleLover123
              Hello Guys,
              got an Acer here with the problem that when i'm installing windows it just crashes (turns off) and not going back on as soon as i press the power button.
              I've tried it with different sticks and windows versions and also with windows 10 and 11 but it's the same problem.
              The only difference is that when i want to install windows 11 it crashes during the installation screen when "getting files ready for installation" at 25% - 30% progress and
              when i install windows 10 it goes trough until the restart and at "getting devices ready" it...
