Son of a... P3 Heatsink Removal?

HOW DO YOU DISMANTLE THIS THING? Grrr!!!

I've been blocking the heatsinks for my project system and putting on thermal compound. I blocked out the heatsink for my old Voodoo3, which was not even close to flat... really could use more, but anyway. Then I blocked the heatsink for the chipset on this BH6 which was the worst I have ever seen. It took me forever to get this thing flat with a piece of 240. I forgot I could use a file from the garage. I thought I'd work the heatsink on this P3-500, but I cannot figure out how to get it apart and I've been googling for half an hour and can't come across any examples of how to get one apart. Are these just not meant to come apart? haha!

Okay, finally found instructions on how to remove this sum'biscuit. I was expecting to find better, but this heatsink also needs to be blocked. I just don't see how the processor pressing against the anodized surface can be as good as pressing against bare aluminum. I'll file this guy down, tomorrow and put some new paste on.

I noticed while I had the actual CPU card out of it's assembly that there are some spots where they neglected to install some of the chip type capacitors. I don't do overclocking so this will probably never concern me, but I didn't expect them to neglect components.

Was this heatsink from the socket based P3's or the Slot based? Either way I did not find them hard at all to take apart....except for the 1Ghz P3 heatsink where there is a weird mounting system. It is the one with the green lever.

Edit: I picked up an old slot P2 processor and found out what you mean.

yeah it was a slot processor. I didn't expect it to have those little push pins like the clips we use on cars... which usually break. Thank goodness these did not.

Yeah I know the ones you mean, on the heatsinks with the weird fan mounting arrangement... I replace those with generic socketA/370 units

Pushpins Logistics? like what are used to hold on GPU coolers as well?

Most Coppermines have an excess number of MLCC mounting locations on the flip side of the FC-PGA package - they're populated accordingly depending on the FSB, Core Clock and size of the enabled L2 cache. If it's a slow Celeron with a 66 FSB, low multiplier and 128k L2 cache, then you'll find a few MLCCs. OTOH, if it's a 1GHZ P3 with 133 FSB and 256K L2 cache, expect to find all MLCCs installed. It's just a manufacturing optimization, which also incidentally helps thwart overclocking efforts.

Metod for removing glued heatsink from fragile component
              by harp
I have peltir element glued to heatsink with something thick and sticky like putty... it cant be separate with force or heat without risk of breaking ceramic or damaged semiconductor layers due to force (eg if try twisted, pulled, lifted)... method that I am using is a single thread for needle (thin and firm thread of pure polyester that cant break with bare hands without glowes), and using it like a saw between heatsink and peltir. I holding a heatsink with knee against table. It slowly cut throug putty and release glued parts. It is slow proces, but preserve undamaged component and heatsink....

              Hi guys.
I want to change thermal paste on this CPU.
I opened the plastic cover but ain't sure what screws should I remove to be able to lift the heatsink up with fans and reach CPU.
Does it look difficult or I as a beginner can do it?...

Seeking Advice on Enhancing Heatsink for Main Processor on SAMSUNG TV Motherboard
              by Ven
              Hello everyone,

I'm looking to upgrade the heatsink on the main processor of my TV's motherboard for better cooling performance.

The current heatsink is a square-shaped one (2.8cm x 2.8cn) with a basic design, and I believe a more efficient heatsink could help with thermal management and potentially extend the life of the TV.

I'd appreciate any advice on the best type of heatsink to use, specific product recommendations, and tips for installation.

If you've done a similar upgrade, I'd love to hear about your experience and any challenges you...

              MDM removal on 16 inch 2019 A2141 MBP & 15 inch 2018 MBP A1990
              by TimScrawn
              Hi there,

This is my first post. I just wanted to come here to get a clear answer from some people about MDM removal on the 16 inch 2019 A2141 MBP & 15 inch 2018 MBP A1990. I have seen a lot of things on MDM removal, and wanted to know exactly what is needed to remove it, and what the best option is in 2024 when running Sonoma.

I know that Checkm8 have an MDM removal service now, that seems to be a permanent removal. I also have heard you can remove the T2 ROM and use a programmer to read the data and change the serial number. Im not 100 percent sure if this is a...

HP 440 G2 no power after short in flat lcd
              by dclass-pro
Hi all guys, I need your help. On a HP 440 G2 - LA-B181P laptop I was changing the speakers and the pc worked fine everything ok.
After closing it all with all the screws I realized that it would no longer turn on. I opened it and found that the flat cable of the LCD was shorted. I ordered a new flat but the motherboard still won't turn on, as soon as I connect the power supply the connector LED always flashes and the power button stays on.
I tried to check the voltages and the 3v and 5v are there, on the battery pin (with no battery connected) I have about 2v.
              I tried to...
