Re: Supermicro curse strikes again
Yup, confirmed, as I desoldered an intel chip from a junk p4 gateway board and tried it... all the "stock" flash tools see it when hot flashed (and program it) but the result is a non-booting system (boot block issue?). Uniflash however doesn't work as the .rom is 3kb above 512kb... and it sees the image as the wrong size (I added trailing zeroes to make it 1mb and tried it on some junk 1mb chips... uniflash liked it but it wouldn't obviously boot)

same capacity.
126x4=512
4m/8=512
just different sector sizeLeave a comment:

Re: Supermicro curse strikes again
Tried uniflash... found out the chip supplied was a 128x4K chip... and not the correct size for the rom! WTF?
After some googling, I found out this:
Originally posted by intel datasheet for the stock chip4 or 8 Mbits of flash memory for platform

sections

Mbit (Intel 82802AB) densities
- Automated byte program and block erase via
an integrated Write State Machine (WSM)
So, those are the specs I need in a chip... looks like a digikey order is needed (so I can uniflash a proper chip).Attached FilesLast edited by ratdude747; 06-07-2014, 01:00 AM.Leave a comment:

Re: Supermicro curse strikes again
were you wearing the right shirt?
Yup, I had another supermicro die... this time it's my X5DAL-TG2.
What happened was I on a SLIC 2.1 mod streak and like some other units (Including my Tyan Thunder K8WE) I flashed a modded bios I rolled my self.
What happened was the BIOS installed correctly but then on reboot it froze during the really slow first boot (before optimizing settings)... I hard resetted, now it spins fans.
I suspect it's a faulty BIOS chip, as in the past it's:
-randomly reset settings, even on a known good (brand new) CMOS battery
-radomly died for a few hours, fixed after time (or reseating memory)
Would ebaying a replacement (pre-programmed) for $16 be the way to go, or is there a low cost (<$50) programmer out there for such PLCC chips (I have dead boards to source chips)? Or does this not even sound like a bad flash chip?Leave a comment:

Re: Supermicro curse strikes again
Fuck it...
It's unstable as hell... won't escape POST with 8GB installed (tried 2 sets of modules)... and with less (even 4 modules worth, say 5GB total) it will boot half of the time (POST hangs the other half).
Also, the chip included isn't flashable (model isn't reconized by every pheonix flash DOS utility I've tried) and hotflashing was no good (some file block was missing?). They used what appears to be an off branded 49F004T for the chip...
IDK if it's humidy or what... the basement is pretty humid.
Any suggestions or is this thing a goner?Last edited by RJARRRPCGP; 05-31-2014, 06:34 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Supermicro curse strikes again
chip came in, fixed it. They used a different model from what I was trying to force flash... which makes me think I was trying the wrong model.
I may try hotflashing... maybe.Leave a comment:

Re: Supermicro curse strikes again
Doesn't hurt to have a backup, ESP if you are trying to mod one. Anyway when you ship the hard drive if you have any chips you need flashed just send them with it and I will make you some backups.Leave a comment:

Re: Supermicro curse strikes again
Already ordered a chip (preflashed)... so unless I get a dud, I won't need another chip flashed.Leave a comment:

Re: Supermicro curse strikes again
Crap, lost the orginal chip.
I'll probably order a replacement... Topcat, you need not risk the life of your board for my board... as then we'd have TWO dead ones.
edit- ordered... Wish me luck... if not, Tocat may get a free backup chip for his board (and I'll have a partial system to do something with)

Re: Supermicro curse strikes again
Send me the chip, I'll see if I can hotflash it off my working one. I can also look through my junk and see if I have one of these eproms.Leave a comment:

by ugamazingI'm looking to upgrade several 8GB 820-00850 boards to 16GB or 32GB for personal use. I am curious what the best practice and process is for sourcing new replacement chips, and what vendor(s) you guys prefer? Another question is, how do I find compatible chips and their corresponding part/model numbers? For example, in the 820-00850 schematic, the DDR chip U2600 model listed (EDFB232A1MA) corresponds to 1x32GB chip. Of course, I would need 4x8GB chips to replace the 4x2GB chips currently on the board. How do I find compatible 8GB chips? Is it as simple as searching "BGA178 8GB 2133"...

by feherholloHi,
I asking for help on some new WSON8 256MB chips. Please share your experience. I faced error on some new chips on read, erase, write with different programmers. These new chips are not exist in any programmers database. (GD25B256D, XM25RH256, W25Q256JV so on.)
I'm using RT809F V.5.0, EZP2023 Pro, CH341A Green
For the exact experience with GD25B256DYIG is RT809F erase the chip under 33sec. This kind of 256MB chip normal erase time is 70-120sec so I think not all the partitions are erased. If I do blank check or reread the buffer says FFFFFF but when I write the correct... -
by ProttHello dear badcappers!
The title pretty much says it all - do you, please, know if there's any way to troubleshoot which of the integrated RAM chips (LPDDR5X in this case) is faulty?
Backstory:
After replacing the 4 onboard (soldered) memory chips on a RoG Ally (4x4 GB to 4x8 GB) it got stuck on the RoG logo. I assume one of the chips is either not soldered properly or faulty. However after reflowing and replacing bunch of them I am still stuck at the same place.
If there is a way to narrow down which memory module is faulty it would make my life much... -
by LukeDavisHello again! (People are likely going to get tired of seeing posts from me lol)
I'd like to try and compile a list of known bad AMD/ATI Chipsets and graphics processors.
While I do not possess the knowledge of some of the brilliant minds on this forum, I can at least mention a few chips I've encountered as being troublesome.
1. ATI 216-0752001 (RS880M/RX280M) found inside 2 HP laptops, one I've since deemed screwed, and swapped the board to an intel one, the other HP seems to be less hateful and runs fine.
2. ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 and the... -
by piernovJust archiving everything related to bumpgate since most stuff has disappeared from Google. Maybe people will finally take the time to read some of it and stop shouting "reflow gpu" at every occasion but rather try to understand what the real issue is…
Interesting parts about the failure analysis are "Why Nvidia's chips are defective" and "Why Nvidia's duff chips are due to shoddy engineering"
May complete this post at a later date with more details.
Basically issue is a combination of thermal dissipation of the chip with hotspot,... - Loading...
