I have a computer off in the corner running Ubuntu Server with an old dot matrix printer plugged into it. Recently, I had to set up printing from another computer running Windows to that printer. Setting that up was essentially a half-hour struggle. Then, I had to set it up to print from Linux Mint. I went into the printer settings, only to find that it had somehow set itself up. It even gave me full access to the settings of the printer itself (Resolution, etc.), which Windows didn't (because I had to tell Windows that it was a LaserJet. Linux picked it up as a "Remote Printer").

Sometimes you need to break shit to fix it.... Thats why my lawnmower doesn't have a deadman switch or engine brake anymore

Re: I just saw a computer do the craziest thing...
I've always found Linux printing to be a breeze. Literally plug the printer in and in 99.8% of cases it installs it in 5 seconds. The other 0.2% are a nightmare though. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: I just saw a computer do the craziest thing...
Linux usually has a vast catalog of drivers, and a lot of distros have been made to be as easy to setup as possible. This is to aid people new to the OS, who are used to Windows. The less they need to set up, the more friendly linux seems.Comment

Re: I just saw a computer do the craziest thing...
It was quite surprising when I booted from the liveCD to find that my UPS was detected right away (and as a UPS, not as a battery like in WIndows). My Bluetooth adapter (with a Broadcom(!) chip in it) also worked right away. The only things that didn't "just work" were 3D acceleration and HDMI audio output, both of which were fixed by the installation of fglrx.Comment

In Linux you can manage your printers from a browser page. This is how I always do it:
http://localhost:631/
If you use the IP address of the computer, you can do it remotely too.Comment

I like how easy Ubuntu Linux printer setup has become, too.
When I saw the title, though, I tried to picture what would be truly crazy. I had an image of a computer dragging itself to the bathtub by the power cord and going for a swimComment

by re-atariHello all, as the title says, I'm very much in need of a valid firmware dump of a Anycubic Photon 5.5 3D resin printer. It's stored in a Winbond 25Q32, so it's 4Mbyte.
Here's a little background for my request. A few weeks ago I bought this 3D printer from a guy who had moved on to a PLA printer. I got it at a vey reasonable price, as it was in a defective state. The seller told me that he had experienced a power failure during a firmware upgrade, after which the printer appeared to be dead. He thought the firmware was corrupted in such a way that the printer was now bricked. As he... -

Attempt to print and immediately get a Windows pop-up saying "Error printing". The document appears in the printer queue window with Status "Error-printing".
Turned off printer. Unplugged, waited, replugged. Ran the Windows troubleshooter. Removed and reinserted toner cartridge. Checked for paper jam. No printer error lights. Reinstalled driver. Restarted the Spooler service. Rebooted...06-22-2023, 11:11 PM -
by ArtefilHi,
One of the partner I'm mostly working with, brought his Officejet 8012e, facing a problem I'm failing finding a solution.
On the Officejet 8012e, there's only one USB connector on the back, for connecting the printer to a computer.
The screen displays the following message :
"a problem has occured with one of the printer's critical system files. A printer update will be installed to fix this problem"
But even if the printer is connected through wifi to the network, nothings happen, and the printer stays idle for days.
Have you ever...09-28-2023, 05:11 PM -
by прямоHi all,
a friend gave me this printer because it's no longer working.
It powers on, but won't do a self-test print and when connected via USB to Windows, Device Manager says No Printer Attached under USB Hubs tree.
The red light doesn't blink either with no paper inside.
I think the firmware maybe corrupted. If someone has a similar printer and can provide a firmware dump, I really appreciate it.
