    *shudders at RAM price$*

Abit is on the up-swing, or so it seems. There have been a number of new ASUS boards with boot or constant re-boot issues posted at Anand's. I have a hunch it's cold solder joints.

Sell the 450W SP after you buy a Corsair HX520 at buy.com for $80AR at Google check-out w/free shipping. This is a semi-modular unit with a five year warrenty, built by Seasonic on it's M-12 platform. It is filled with Nipponese caps vs the SP's Fuhjyyu caps. It has been reviewed very well indeed.

    Have fun!

        Re: Losing my mind.....

That computer is going to want atleast a Raptor to feel nice... The difference on an otherwise so awsome system will be very large...

The faster the system the bigger the harddrive bottleneck becomes...

700$ in RAM? For that I'd expect 4GB (and I am being honest)

And yea, the CPU is also on the expensive side... 4 cores wont have that much use in most apps... Unless you do an unhealthy ammount of multitasking, but if you manage to keep all 4 CPU's busy I'd have to ask how much work you really get done :P

Because as I understand it this is going to be a desktop system right?

I'm slacking................ I took down a few of my folders to make way for the 'showdown' machines... I don't really need 10 PC's running in here, so a few had to go.

Nice specs Mikey! I'll drink to that box!!

                Re: Losing my mind.....

RAM seems expensive, the newer Dominator ram with the larger heatsink I found
                for $500 per 2GB PC8500 kit (CAS5 though).

My Antec PSU was very weak btw, what Amps is that one, it seems very weak for future upgrading, the latest graphics cards recommend 600w / 30Amp rail minimum.

I'm also making a new PC, so far I have the Antec Nine Hundred case, not sure on the rest, I have Dominator PC8500 ordered, I'm thinking about saving money on the CPU and investing it in a good board such as Gigabyte DQ6 and a decent cooling solution, I won't tolerate any CPU going over 40 centigrade. Graphics card is a pain because everybody wants 800w PSU and prices so high, my case requires an Easy-Con style one, but can't find one as yet.

The hardrive series 9, I have one of those, but isn't there a series 10 now? no idea if it's better, but 5 year warranty

Raptor drives? dont' they generate heat and noise?

seagate have 7200.10 which are the sataii drives.

edit: no those above are sata ii also

i wonder how a workstation at same price would compare to that desktop in performance.

Yeah the RAM is two 2-stick sets. 2GB per set. I thought $700 for 4GB wasn't too bad.

I'm wanting to set this up as a video editing box. I noticed a big difference between a single P4 to a dual P3 (VP6) then to the dual core P4. The dual core P4 smokes during rendering.

As for the burner, I just wanted something in there.

I'll check on a different case w/o a PSU and go that route, Galvanized. Thanks for the info.

I've fallen behind on HDD info. I just figured 3GB SATA would be good. Guess I'll have to go back and do a bit more investigation. oh well

                      Re: Losing my mind.....

For cases I like Lian Li but the cheap PC-7s tend to be a little flimsy.

For guys that don't mind having a door, like Antec cases, want 120 fans front / rear but want inexpensive...The Antec SLK3000B is worth considering. Amazon.com was nearly giving them away several months ago but now they want $60+ just like Buy.com does.
                      For $29 http://www.provantage.com/antec-slk3000b~7ANTG02Y.htm
                      Reviewed http://www.silentpcreview.com/article210-page1.html
I'm not sure if a quieter 120X38 will fit in the front of the SLK. If not, the drive cage would need bumping back.

For a decent selection of cheap cases look to SVC.com, Dealsonic.com or directron.com.

Ok....I took some advice. How about this? These will be ready for Quad cores when they come down in price. These will immediately replace my two VP6s. Doing a little gaming at the pad. Nothing serious, just something to do. Oh...did I mention they'll be folding????

Boy, cheap is an understatement for some of the cases from Dealsonic.com.
I bought one microATX case that looked kinda nice on their website. But when I got it, it was paper thin steel. And the front plastic panel was spray-painted, not colored plastic! It smelled nasty as heck! And with overspray all over the place. The 400W P4 ready psu was lighter than an old 85W Lite-On psu out of an old socket-7 e-machines pc.

Thank god I was able to sell it off.

Not sure how I like the PS on the bottom. Might mull it over a bit. I did look at the BadAxe a while back.

I continue to take input. It'll be a few weeks before I do this....maybe. Depends on how drunk I get this weekend (mine starts now......i love 4 day weekends ) and how close fatal is getting to me.

The Corsair HX520 can be had now for $99 and maybe free shipping from buy.com. Last month it was $80.

Both Corsair units are very good kit but do read / post over at jonnyguru.com if you want / need final input on PSU selection.

That is Maria between sets thinking of me as she snacks. Yeah right! I do like her but she is human...Thank God!

The Corsair will be semi-modular and be populated with Nipponese caps. It will be quiet. It is a Seasonic M-12 w/o the aux 60mm fan. It has a 5 year warrenty vs the Seasonic's 3.

The new Silverstone OP650 is worth the two week wait for reviews if one wants/needs 12V@54A on a single rail. I think it will be filled with Teapo and built at Enhance's new Taiwan factory. It will not be a loud unit..I hope.
Sells for $130 now, should drop in price after 90 days.

For bulletproof build quality, look no further than Etasis. The Silverstone Zeus series is built by Etasis and the big E will be marketing their own. Won't be uber-quiet but not server loud either(80mm fan).

So what's with the "AMD" DDR2?

My (Intel) board "officially" supports 4G DDR2's (four slots, 16G total) but this "AMD" deal is kind of scary recalling back to the old SDRAM deal. In fact I have a few 512M SDRAM modules now but they don't work in my 440BX board, which is too bad, would rather run this board with 2GB RAM through its four slots, else have to use the VIA boards with only 3 slots is the best I can otherwise do.

But anyway I heard these "AMD" DDR2 still "work" on an Intel board but cannot clock at PC6400...

LG xboom PN5 stuck in demo mode(?). Looking for retail firmware.
                                        by FlashFireSix
I took an ebay gamble on an LG xboom pn5 speaker which was listed as having battery issues (turning on then off).

I got it earlier today and concluded it's in a demo mode because of the following:
                                        • When it's plugged in, it'll turn on and the power button will not turn it off
                                        • Battery is healthy, reading 4.2v and not swollen, charges according to the xboom app
                                        • the play/pause and volume buttons don't work
                                        • You can pair to it and play music fine, as long as it's connected to power
                                        • The bluetooth connection is disconnected after 5 seconds of audio pausing
                                        • The DTS setting is defaulted
                                        ...

                                        OLED65CX5LB PSU Feedback Loop Issues
                                        by CiorapulUcigas
Hey guys. I have the dreaded OLED65CX5LB that LG decided to make REV 2.0 of the PSU 5 months after the first rev. If they moved that quickly you know that there is a problem ha ha.
My TV still has REV1.0 and has died. I have managed to get it back to life and it is working almost faultless.

The TV turns on if I press the power button 4-5 times. Once it's on it works perfectly and no reset clicking can be heard.
While on Stand-by I can hear the resets clicking, so I decided to investigate.

Well I am a bit stuck and need some help

                                        The IC that controls...

Hi guys looking for some help. Losing my mind over an old machine I'm trying to get going and cannot. It's a Dell Inspiron 7567 LA-D993P.

Problem was it was not charging. One of the dc-in mosfets had died. So I replaced all 5 of the 6 mosfets in charging circuit. Also replaced bq charging ic.

Laptop powers on and recognises charger but battery percentage never increases. Laptop will run on battery power only but can't get past 4%.

I've uploaded the schematics if anyone can help. Page 55. [MOD EDIT] Link to schematic -> https://www.badcaps.net/forum/...
