    Most Expensive 360W PSU?

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817151117
This will replace the Cooler Master Extreme 500W that is in my new AMD PC. I don't trust it because it smells funny, and because it has shit caps. I got it used with a seized fan so besides, I don't know how long it overheated for...

Should be here tomorrow. By the JonnyGURU review of it I read, it should outlive my need for it. So I won't have to sit here wondering when my "500W" will go BANG and my PC will die

Yeah that was a good investment! Why not just recap the cooler master?

Because it smells funny so I don't trust it. And it's not worth re-capping.
The fan I put in it seems a bit loud, too... but that was also a complaint with the original fan according to reviews...

Yeah. That would do much better than any CoolerDisaster Extreme. I wish I could get the G-360 for $60. They are double that price in Aus.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

I'd be happy to buy you one But shipping will not be cheap, as you remember. It was like what, $30 last time?

But, isn't CoolerMaster at least better than CoolMax?

Hope you're not getting confused with CoolMax, lol. CoolMax OTOH, definitely is an iffy brand at best. Most CoolMax PSUs suck.

IIRC, CoolerMaster is possibly on par with Fortron/FSP.

I do agree that it's problematic, but Hardware Secrets' review showed it able to do the rating without blowing.

That's a major step better than most PSUs we hear about at badcaps.net...

The only big cons I see with the review was the ripple going through the roof and paltry power factor.
(I wonder if the ripple was the caps...)

Yes, i have a CoolMax CU-500B is that what you're thinking of?
It's sitting in the closet right now as I obviously don't want to use it in any of my nice systems!

If you ever decide to trash that cooler master, let me know (Unlike you, I actually believe in fixing stuff).

Cooler Master PSU's are usually good (unless it's a base model). My Silentpro 600W has been great after a recap and a fan controller repair (cracked solder on a transistor).

                  Re: Most Expensive 360W PSU?

Looks like that CoolerMaster model just has nasty ripple issues.

And CoolMax is likely worse. I have a CoolMax V-400 sitting here that at least looks better than my Deer DR-250ATX.

Even though I dunno about the switchers and heatsinks.

I pulled it out of a Dell Dimension 2400 or 2350 and gave the owner one of my better-looking 350W units.

But, TBH, the V-400 is lucky to be barely better than that Deer I had.

Like when I got a Deer from TigerDirect, IIRC in 2000. LOL. (Not even 2001!)

I originally got the Deer for my K6-2 450 Mhz with Soyo SY-5EMA/5EMA+ motherboard with 128 MB of Kingston PC133 SDRAM. (In 2000)

And used in for my summer, 2001 build, which was.. drum rolls.. My first Athlon, an Athlon 900 Mhz with Soyo SY-K7VTA-B motherboard, which had a buggy BIOS out-of-the-box!

$80 (although that was for two).

EDIT: The problem with the ripple on those CoolerDisasters is that they only use one cap on the 12V rail, and no PI coil. That pretty much guarantees high ripple

EDIT 2: I got myself a CoolerDisaster Extreme Power 600W about 6 months ago. Like Shovenose's PSU, it had a seized up Death Adda fan, and bad caps (and a somewhat discoloured PCB). I recapped it and replaced the fan. It worked OK at first, but I didn't have a use for it, so I put it away for a few months. When I plugged it in after digging it out, it exploded.

Yeah, this Seasonic is very nice. It's also heavy, so no chance of sending it cheaply across the ocean.

Here, this model is $86 (290 ron) with free shipping, and just about $2 more than Seasonic S12II-430 Bronze 430W

But we have 24% VAT so if you factor that out, it's not such a bad price compared to US and other places. On other items, they price stuff higher just because they can, like it happens in Australia.

Those are the AcBel Polytech units, right? I'm not sure if other OEMs rebranded by CoolerMaster have the same issue.

Obviously it IS a base model then... Never mind my first post... if they were too cheap for a farking PI coil, then who knows what other crap they cut corners on.

Well the Seasonic 360W went fine into my big PC and works great creats no heat whatsoever even after 10 minutes of Furmark+Prime95

Now the problem lies with my secondary PC. It's got a tiny 65W intel celeron g540 and 8gb of ram, with a single hard drive, a bunch of led fans, and a radeon hd 5770.
                                  but.. wtf?
would my computer even turn on with 8v on the 12v rail?
It's using a 500W Cooler Master Extreme that I'm aware is not so great but it's better than nothing!

The readings are false, like Per says, grab a multimeter and measure it.

The readings also say 5.7 for the 5v rail, which is unlikely, it's a dc-dc conversion from 12v so those 5v and 3.3v should be spot on.
