    Sick PS'c

    Hi All!
I got a question here. For the past six or seven weeks I've been trying to fix my crashing problem with my "Junk" PC. She would last an hour or two on a clean install of Windows XP Pro then go into a hard lockup. Everytime after getting restarted most of the desktop icons would not execute their programs ever again. I changed the mobo and CPU....same problem, changed the PSU....same problem. Put some of my stuff including my hard drive in a Compaq. Same problem again but it took 24 hours to go down. Got pissed and bought a used Dell Optiplex GX 150 w/o a hard drive. I put mine in it, and reprogramed. She lasted about three hours before the crash. For shits and giggles I used the Western digital utillity cd and rewrote the MBR on the hard drive. The Dell has now been back up for three days and running strong. In rewrtting the MBR did I kill some sort of MBR sector virus that may have been the root cause of all these problems? Oh P.S. the drive that I use is a Western Digital WD Caviar SE WD800 Model WD800 JB. It was brand new in March! Going to see if I can get Circuit City to warranty it next weekend!

There is a fifth dimension, beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.

looks like you found the turd that was causing all that grief!
seems that wd drives get cranky like that just before they eat their firmware and start clicking.
    back it up now!
might have beed wounded by that craptastic raidmax psu too.

**Need Help Unlocking BIOS and Hard Drive on Dell Precision 5820 Tower**
      by federalhouse
      Hi everyone,

I'm in need of assistance with a Dell Precision 5820 Tower. The BIOS is locked with "Dell Security Manager," preventing access to the HDD-1 hard drive.

      **Background:**

I recently purchased this Dell Precision 5820 Tower from a recycler who salvages equipment from abandoned office spaces. The computer was left behind by its previous owner and was password locked. Given that it can run Windows 11, I saw this as an opportunity to upgrade my setup.

      **What I've Tried So Far:**

Sony OLED XR-77A80J - 5 Flashes But Turn On After Hard Reset
      by odie34
I am a hobbyist (not a professional) so please be gentle...

I recently received an XR-77A80J that wouldn't turn on. (Repeating 5 flashes when plugged in.)

I did a hard reset by holding the power button for about 30 seconds until the set powered down. I then tried to turn it on and it powered up, bringing me to the setup screen. There's not a lot of detail on the setup screen but the picture didn't have any distortions, so at least a cursory examination suggests no physical damage to the screen. The set appeared to be working normally, but it shut down after about 15 seconds,...

how to recover data from a western digital passport
      by kjchatman
I was trying to recover the data from a 4tb drive that was bought last september and it stopped working after a couple months. I bought a drive of the same model with the intention of using the pcb but after swapping the firmware, it still isn't recoverable or even usable. both pcb boards will work with the new drive as long as the firmware from the new drive is used. In disk management, the size of the drive doesn't show at all. is this corrupt firmware or worse?...
