    Sound card question

I'm looking for a new sound card for my brother's system. The board is a Gigabyte MA-880-US3 (i think that's the model). Anyway, we tried a Creative X-Fi PCIe card (came with an MSI board) and it conflicted with in, meaning it would turn off LAN everytime I plugged it in... even in different slots (and this was even before windows booted)... took that card and put it into my main rig and it fired up fine, so I definitely know it's the board and not the card.
So now I'm looking for a new card but not sure if we should go PCI-e or PCI? Currently looking at the Asus DX and D1 cards. DX is PCIe and D1 is PCI... what shall I buy?

    Re: Sound card question

go pci-e x1 if you can fit it in

    if you want pci:

    if you want usb:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...Recording.html (i know its an audio interface, but it has decent D/A in it)

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc..._Micro_II.html (turtle beach is usually safe...)

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc..._Surround.html (usb x-fi shouldn't conflict)

have you tried just resolving the conflict?

      He's in Australia.

Try changing the IRQ of the on-board LAN and see if the sound card works then.

There is no point [advantage] in using PCI-E bandwidth for basic sound.
      - Just use whichever is cheaper.

Personally I'd use the PCI to leave the PCI-E slot available for something more important later.

        Re: Sound card question

Well I purchased the Asus Xonar D1 PCI sound card and I'd have to say I'm really happy. Crystal clear sound and no conflicts with devices... but I have a small issue. My front panel header on my case won't work... I plugged it into the header of the new sound card and it doesn't work at all.

My front panel is an AC'97 and it says it supports it (and also HD Audio), but why won't it work? have I missed a setting somewhere?

          Re: Sound card question

could be... have you checked the drivers to enable the headers (if any)? otherwise, not sure, unless there's another header. did the front panel work before?

Marian Trace Alpha sound card repair help
            by Christos Tsiligiannis
            Hello to the forum.

My name is Christos, I am new to the forum here and i am posting from Greece.

So i have this old German sound card from Marian, called Trace Alpha. To be exact i have 2 of them and i use them professionally for my small FM radio station here. The first one works like a charm, but the second one does not work at all.

To be more specific in the same exact pc with windows 7 (i even tried 32bit) the one works while the other doesn't.

So i tried asking for a schematic from the company and they would not give me one. Instead they...

EVGA Nu Audio Sound Card - Not Working
            by FZG
I have an EVGA Nu Audio sound card that is not working properly and I need some help diagnosing the fault (preferably by someone who owns this card and is willing to take some measurements).

The card sort of powers up (LED lights are coming on and the relais is clicking, some voltages are present) but it is not detected in Windows. I tried installing in two different PCs and tried several driver versions but the card was never detected anyway. So I thought this is probably not a driver / software-issue and then disassembled the card to take some measurements.

            I found...

sound card dead after graphics card installation
            by paparazzo79
Hi guys.I own Z690 F Strix board in one of my PCs....everything was working fine with integrated graphics card.I turned off power from it, installed graphics card from another PC, connected all the peripheral cables, optical sound cable of course when everything was switched off. Then I powered on the machine and integrated soundcard is dead. How did this manage to happen and if there is a way to diagnose and replace damaged component?
The new pci-e soundcard costs here 80 euros which is half of money I spent on motherboard.

Modding, adding usb/c audio pcb to laptop with faulty sound card/chip, Lenovo L340
            by alpersen
            Hello
After months of trying I gave up my laptops sound card. I plan to solder a sound card on pcb inside my laptops case, probably connecting to usb ports inside. Do anyone has an experience to recommend pcb type audio/sound card suitable installing inside a laptop? Probably should have some type of amplifier for connecting to internal speakers ( speakers ).

            Thank you

            DIY PCIe x1 video card...
            by eccerr0r
Anyone try just cutting all the extra pins and card edge of a PCIe x16 card to make a PCIe x1 video card, just to stuff another slot and connect more monitors?

Would this be considered a ghettomod?
