    Where's the difference?

Where's the difference between these two caps?

    1. Both genuine rubys
    2. both 1500uF 6.3v
    3. both same series
    4. the top one is blue, the bottom one is black

    Is it just different color?

top one might be fake, Rubycon YXG should be black sleeve, I guess.

        Probably Age.
Pretty sure they changed the series color on those sometime back.

          My guess is different factories...

Look closely at the "6.3V" part.

On one - The V is the same height as the 3.
The other - the V is shorter than the 3.
You can't see in the picture as it's covered up, but I bet the font for "YXG" is a little different and more spaced out on one than the other.

I've seen the same thing on some boards with MBZ. The wrapper coloring and font is slight different. I think it's an issue of different production lines. I've seen factory fresh boards with both styles on the same board with manufacturing dates very close to each other.

I'll dig through my stash, see if I can find an example and post back with a picture.

Top cap in this photo is brand new ordered from Topcat. '08 date code.
Bottom cap is pulled from a never used but very dead Intel board. '07 date code.

It's hard to tell as I only had my old camera with me, but one the top is more blue, the bottom is more purple. Again, the different font sizes and letter spacing suggests to me different batches, factories, etc. I've seen both font styles in a wide range of dates, so I don't think there's a date when the style switched. Both are from known sources, both test OK with the ESR meter.

Of course, I just read more carefully and realized yours are blue and black as opposed to just different shades of the same color, but I noticed the same font differences between your two examples as I've been noticing as I get more knowledgeable on this stuff.

i remember yxg in black and dark blue.
iirc the dark blue were on a asus.
newer rubycons are all black/white print.this changed along with the change in the jacket to lose the pvc.

I have plenty of Rubycon YXG in black and blue with overlapping year ranges. None look fake.
