Need advice on suitable replacements for CF-EG65 mobo

I woud like to replace the current caps on this motherboard (currently Chocon) with better quality ones. I seem to have access to a wide range of Nichicon at good prices. Could someone please help me in the selection, I am new to all this tech stuff and want to make a good choice. Ideally, I would like to replace all the caps with the same brand... the current caps are as follows:

    7 X 6.3v 1500uF - short (Have Rubycon ZL)
    8 X 6.3V 2700uF - tall (Panasonic eeufcoj272s)
    4 X 16v 1000uF - short (Rubycon yxf)

Please notice the types I have writen in brackets next to each item. These are either what I have, or what the one local supplier is offering. Of course, I would rather replace all of them with either Rubycon, or Nichicon.

Any help / advice in this regard would be greatly appreciated ;-)

The motherboard is in a FIC ICE Cube VL67... I would really like to save this unit (if possible)

having all the same brand and type of cap on the board would be nice, but not necessary. as long as they are a good brand and type and are low esr, then any will work. The important thing to do is if there are multiple in a certain area/row, then it is best to use all the same type/size/brand. you can see the list of good and bad brands by looking at the good and bad caps listing. also make sure that the size that you buy will fit on the board.

Example, if you have a row of 4 "8 mm" wide caps all next to each other, then it is best to say with the 8mm because the extra size around may make it so that there is not enough room to fit all of them in place on that row.

also, if you have a question, please try to have all available info about what you are doing before asking. You have the number needed, and have short or tall, but the same cap may come in 2 different sizes around, but with about the same height. look around and do a search about the type that you want to use here and you can usually find your answer to if it is a good or bad cap..

Thanks for your repsonse.. my apologies for not supplying the full details...

7 X 6.3v 1500uF - (Replaced with Rubycon ZL... no size, or clearance issues)
        8 X 6.3V 2700uF - 10mm(D) / 25mm(H)
        3 X 16v 1000uF - 10mm(D) / 16mm(H)

Get the ESR and ripple specs for the Chocon caps you currently have on the board (do a google search), and make sure that the ones you are replacing them have equal or better values

Thanks for the responses guys. I have replaced the caps and the board is working great.... it seems though that the PSU is somewhat toast as well :-( Gonna see if I can get a replacement, as it is very tight to replace the caps in there (nearly ALL the caps are TEAPO).

Re: Need advice on suitable replacements for CF-EG65 mobo

I have fixed the motherboard and the PC does post, but there seem to be issues with the front ports. Thatis, when the front port PCB is plugged into the motherboard, the PC doesnt post. It may be that there a few caps on there I can replace. I am still trying to source suitable replacements as there is a bit of a space problem.

Once again, thanks for all the responses guys - really apreciate all the help and advice ;-)

Not too sure... but I suppose that if I replace the caps in question, and the problem persists, then I will just use the PC without the front ports connected. I also want to check the motherboard for stability - the last time I had it on, I think it might have rebooted a few times on it's own - but that could have been due to an unstable/faulty hard drive.

did you check the picofuse for the front ports? with a multimeter? it could be blown and somehow the board is sensing it when the ports are plugged in... they also might indicate if the 5v+ is shorted... although the data pins could be shorted without tripping the fuse...

It's funny because I extracted Rubycon ZL, YXG and Nichicon HD from some old (But never used) A7V motherboards. Curious that Asus would use these on motherboards back in the day because these are not as low ESR as MBZ, MCZ, or HN/HM.

Oh well. Maybe there was no benefit of ultra-low ESR for early Socket A platforms. In fact some of the motherboards were only two-layered (Made the extraction easier).

Oh by the way, does anyone know if '01 datecode Nichicon HD have the same problems as the HN/HM did? I want to use the aforementioned caps in PSUs.

They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

Nichicon HD's are usually OK. never seen any of those blown like HM/HN's yet

edit: BTW.. which ones are older anyways? the sleeved HD's or the sleeveless ones with everything written on the top?! o_O
