High ESR Panasonic's from Arrow

Right out of the bag I got some 22uf 25v caps from Arrow they are reading 3ohm ESR. That's a bit high isn't it?

Depends on the test frequency, these are standard caps not electrolytic so they should be tested at 120Hz.

They were bought to replace some 85c caps in an amp. Funny I think they were Chang X. Correction, Jun Fu 85C. Surely a Panasonic 105c cap is miles better than an 85c Jun Fu

In the fine print of the Arrow webpage:

Using this electrolytic EEA-GA1E220H aluminum capacitor from Panasonic in your electronic circuit you'll be able to generate high heat for a given current level due to its relatively high equivalent series resistance.

Why someone would want to "generate high heat" in much of anything electronic eludes me, but the statement specifically mentions the part's "relatively high equivalent series resistance".

They were cheap so I added them to an existing order. I figured they are Panasonic, how bad can they be.

Not for small 5x11 caps.
A lot of datasheets of GP caps will not list the ESR... but some more well-written ones do say it can be normal for the ESR to be up to 5-10 Ohms for some of these small 5x11 caps.

Heck, even entry-level low-ESR like Panny FC can read up to an Ohm or two at normal room temperatures (then try freezing one and see what happens to the ESR! )

TBH, I don't see anything wrong with 105C GP caps. The quality Japanese brands will last a lifetime without issues. I don't think I can say the same for lesser brands... much less garbage like Cheng/Chang/Chong +/-X. Just put some GP caps in a PC PSU - ones from a quality Japanese brand, and also some from cheap China/Taiwan brands. Then run the PSU and see which one lasts longer (and how much longer.) Chances are, the China/Taiwan brands won't last worth a damn.

They'll be more than fine.
Of course, being only rated for 1000 hours, it is a good idea to keep them away from high-heat areas. Not that they won't last even there. All of my Sony CRT monitors are still running on original GP Japanese caps without issues. I haven't checked these small caps, though. But since everything is working OK, I haven't found a reason to anyways. Some people report these do go dry over the years... which I can't say I'm surprised. Most of my CRTs are 20 years old or more already! And they do actually run pretty warm (especially in the summer, when house temps can hit up to 30C in some rooms.)
