    Cap availability problems

I'm hard at work recapping some faulty ATX PSUs.

I'm rapidly depleting my stocks of PSU appropriate capacitors. I would like to use UCC KY series but can't find 2200uf in 10mm can diameter. Mostly I am replacing bulged TEAPO SE(Green) and TEAPO SEK (Brown) 2200uf 10v 10mmx20mm.

I have a few Rubycon ZL and Rubycon YXG in this size but these need reforming.

I had to use 3 UCC KMG caps, they seem to work fine, but not exactly sure. Some of the Data Sheets do not give detailed ripple current and ESR data for comparison.

Any used caps that I have I will be reforming as per momaka's excellent thread here:

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=50530

I've been measuring capacitance and ESR of my used caps. All the TEAPOs and GLuxon and SACON were garbage. Surprising to me was that every JACKCON cap I tested was extremely close to the rated cap value and the ESR values were no worse than the major brands. I removed these from old ABIT Socket 462 boards! Go figure.

Anyone have any suggestions for sources and/or substitutions for the PSU capacitors?

Thanks for this. I found them on Mouser.ca and also UCC KY series.

Why don't you put 3300/6,3 in there? I don't even trouble myself by stocking 2200 uF, it's worthless.

Rubycon YXJ and ZLH series are also available in that size.

I like the YXJ for entry-level low-ESR, like replacing those Teapo SEK caps. Such entry-level low-ESR caps are usually employed in PSUs with older half-bridge design.

On the other hand, ZLH is quite low-ESR - about on par with Panny FR/FM and FS and better than UCC KZE (i.e. closer to KZH). These I use for 3.3V rails with mag-amp circuits and 5VSB. If the PSU uses a newer design (i.e. NOT half-bridge), I sometimes use these on the 5V rail too.

Of course there are many other choices too. Here's a (slightly outdated but still relevant) list of low-ESR caps generally suitable for PSU use:

(Missing from that list: Panasonic FS, Nichicon HV, Rubycon YXF, Rubycon ZLQ, Rubycon ZLH... and maybe a few others I can't remember right now.)

That would be the case for general-purpose non-low ESR caps - they'll only give you the cap size and low-frequency (typically 120 Hz) ripple current.

I guess if you have them.
The 2200 uF are cheaper... unless one does like you and buys a ton of the better stuff in bulk.

IBM NetVista Pentium III - USI Motherboard w/ Teapo SC
              by iMic
              Hi folks,

I have a couple of IBM NetVista desktop computers from around 2000-2001. They have Universal Scientific Industrial (USI) Pro286i motherboards, 733MHz Pentium III processors, and a whole bunch of bad Teapo capacitors. One board has visibly bad and venting capacitors, while the other doesn't look too bad so far.

The board with venting caps works fine, while the good looking board occasionally refuses to power on unless it's left for about 30 seconds after connecting the power - even with a known good power supply. (I am however aware I'll need to check the PSU...

              USB problems?
              by Hondaman
Recently I discovered my SSD died (OCZ/Toshiba 240 GB). It was in a USB enclosure, attached to the Linksys WRT-AC1200 router. Since then I removed the USB enclosure and attached it to my Win7 PC (AMD 8150 CPU, 970 chipset, 64 GB RAM). I also gathered one or two other USB enclosures to figure out what is going on.

(I suspect that I lost quite a few MP3 and FLAC files I recently ripped from my audio CDs, I think I lost very little un-replaceable stuff.)

I think it is IMPOSSIBLE for Win7 to have any problems with a USB enclosure as long as Win7 knows how to speak to the...

Lenovo 11e problems (any sata hdds are not recognized, sleep battery drain)
              by clabr
Need help to solve some problems with this laptop.

After working in bed with it one night and heating up too much (probably the cause of this problems) the sata HDD OS windows froze
After restart the original Sata HDD was not recognized anymore (but works fine in other laptops or PCs)

Tried connecting other good Sata 2.5 HDDs but not one is working in this laptop anymore (not the original nor others)

Before this had happened I observed some other problems:
When I tried replacing original mecanical HDD with a SSD HDD could not get them...

Lenovo X13-Yoga Gen 1: hibernation problems
              by rumpumpel1
I have a Lenovo X13-Yoga Gen 1 that has problems with hibernation mode. When the laptop goes to hibernation mode - either via the start menu or after a time-out - after a short period of activity where the power-on LED flashes, the power consumption should go down to almost 0 and the LED should go out. Most of the time, however, the power consumption indicates further CPU activity and the power LED remains on, but there is no image. Sometimes the CPU activity stops after a few minutes, sometimes not at all. If the laptop enters this state, it can only be brought back to life by a long press on...
