Re: Help for Newbie on measuring capacitance

This I'm sorry is called audiophoolery!
You seriously can't think that a 70 year old capacitor sounds the same today, with how much it has degraded, compared to how it sounded when it was new?
Audiphoolery or not, there is a multi million dollar business out there for vintage guitar parts. The belief is that a 60 yr old capacitor will make a new guitar sound like a 60 yr old one; along with old pots and pickups made with old magnets and old wire, etc., etc.

What is it they say, a sucker is born every minute?
LOL, as long as they pay you for it it's fine I guess

And if you're a believer I wont fret, there are people that believe in way stranger things than that

        All,

Some of you have helped me in the past and I am very appreciative of all the help! (I have fixed TVs/Stereos/ and other small appliances with your efforts...Thanks so much!!!

Today I went to a local HAM Radio Festival. It was one of the smaller ones in our area. My stepfather is the HAM operator. I tinker in electronics but am a Software Programmer (27 years now).

I was looking for a few odds and ends for some electronics work I have to do for the household/farm. Typically these type of shows have the grab bags or a electronics vendor...

Calculating ESR from tan delta -- tan delta's dependence on capacitance
        by Junkrepair
I'm finally recapping my Soyo K7VX6 motherboard (aka KT600 Dragon Ultra) and replacing Sacon SZ-series caps. The Sacon SZ datasheet provides a spec for tan delta, but not for ESR, while the candidate replacement caps are specified in terms of ESR.

I found this nice little description of the conversion:

        Calculating capacitor ESR from Tan(delta)
        https://forum.digikey.com/t/calculat...-from-tan/2633

It mentions that a general spec for tan delta has to be adjusted for the specific capacitance before plugging tan delta into the formula...

Kenwood KR-6030 vintage stereo ,Old Man Trying to Save a Buck
        by DrDos
Hello all. I'll try to keep this short. I have no knowledge of electronics. I can use a multimeter and am familiar with caps to some extent. I bought a Kenwood KR-6030 vintage stereo. It need work and so I thought I would recap the thing since I get power to the on switch but nothing else is working. No lights, no sound and so forth. I went to Mouser to order caps and I find I am way over my head. I not only do not know the type of capacitors I need but Mouser and digikey do not accept Kenwood part numbers. I have the info such as 220uF 63v and such but no place to put it. I could buy a recap...

        M1 MacBook Pro 2021 A2485 - No backlight display
        by rcanpolat
        Hi all,

I recently got my hands on an M1 MacBook Pro (2021, A2485) that I suspect suffered some liquid damage. I have a hot air station and the basic tools to work on the board, but I’m new to SMD repair and would love some guidance before diving in.

Here’s what I’ve observed so far:
        • When I power it on, I hear the MacBook chime and, with a flashlight, I can see the Apple logo on the screen. However, it never completes the boot and eventually powers off. My plan is to try to get the display fully working first, then tackle the boot issue.
        • I did some basic resistor
