All,
Some of you have helped me in the past and I am very appreciative of all the help! (I have fixed TVs/Stereos/ and other small appliances with your efforts...Thanks so much!!!
Today I went to a local HAM Radio Festival. It was one of the smaller ones in our area. My stepfather is the HAM operator. I tinker in electronics but am a Software Programmer (27 years now).
I was looking for a few odds and ends for some electronics work I have to do for the household/farm. Typically these type of shows have the grab bags or a electronics vendor where I can find my needs saving the shipping of online stores as my area does not have any electronic shops... any longer.
Anyways I came across this vintage BK Precision 1403, Its not a 1403A model which seems a little more common online. I believe the 1403 is a 3 Mhz and 1403A is a 5Mhz scope. Was not really looking for another scope.
The price was right (< $20 US) and it came with the original owners manual. Unfortunately it did not come with probes but appears to be very clean and am told it works.
Recently I have come across quite a bit of older BK Precision Equipment in my area very reasonable at these Festivals. I like the fact schematics and how common manuals are available for this BK Precision equipment.
I am a novice at Oscilloscopes/electronics.
In fact for whatever reason I am somewhat intimidated by Oscilloscopes and I use my Rigol 1054Z cautiously. Probably from my lack of experience...
I also have a field oscilloscope (inexpensive handheld - 120Mhz - single channel) that I received as a gift (last birthday) from the wife but have not used it more than once.
So in short I bought this vintage piece of equipment to gain experience mostly but I also find it appealing to look at as its my first "tube" oscilloscope.
So my questions are as follows (keep in mind I am novice);
What probes would be appropriate for this scope?
The manual says they are banana plugs and are spaced for Dual Banana plugs which seems common on the other BK Precision Equipment I own. This unit has a banana connector for ground and a BNC Connector.
for the Vertical input.
Would there have been a standard set of BK Precision probes to use? If so, anyone know what would have been common?
What should I look for when purchasing probes for this vintage unit if I end up in the after market (Non-OEM probes)?
Once Probes are obtained what would be some good test scenarios I could do to confirm operation and to get a good feeling for this type of scope.
Thanks everyone for the help,
Chris
