The same capactitors are now larger

It looks like caps have become short and wide recently.

While trying to replace a bad capXon KF series 3300/10v that is 10x30, the same one is now listed as 13x25.

    The 10x30 became 13x25
    The 8x25 became 10x25

This trend is makes PSU repair nearly impossible, since space is always at a premium.

There don't seem to be any of the better brands that make caps that will fit either.

Very frustrating writing off otherwise good PSU's, and whatever it came out of, due to lack of suitable parts.

I hope you're not replacing CapXon with CapXon, they are lucky to last a year.

most caps come in short-fat and tall-thin variants from the maker - some are custom just to be a pain in the ass.

The tall-thin variants tend to be lower impedance and have higher ripple current ratings than the short-fat variants.

I had the same problem with an antec. The cap places were even drawn with a thin-hole and a fatter hole (three holes, two connected, so either type could go in)

Re: The same capactitors are now larger

There isn't any space to replace the 8 & 10 mm caps in most smaller PSU's as they are so tightly wedged in.

The origionals are 3300/10 and 2200/10 and 16v.
I may be able to drop the 10v to 6.3 to squeeze them in.

I was looking at the capxon info mainly to match specs, and was surprised they were no longer were the same size.

I see Panasonic now do a skinny FS series, but just when there was light at the end of the tunnel, it turned out to be a train....

              They don't include it in a 10v 3300uf, it's either 2700 in 10mm or 3900 in 12.5.

              bugger....

Where is a Tardus when you need one...

Freight is the biggest killer here in NZ, unless you buy from Aliexpress

RS Components offer free freight, although the caps are a few $ more each it still works out cheaper as long as they stock what you need.

that 2700 is probably more capable than a chinese 3300,
your real problem is nobody has FS in stock yet afaik - and preliminary prices are taking the piss.

maybe our member "behemot" can sort something for you - he sells specialised japanese caps.

KingWin ABT-650MM 650 Watt ATX PSU [PCB: SW8835REV:A]
                  by momaka
For today's thread, I have a KingWin ABT-650MM ATX PSU. Official web page with the PSU specs is still up and can be found here:
                  http://www.rmac.kingwin.com/products.../abt_650MM.asp

I just can't help it when I see a broken / for parts PSU on eBay that's listed for cheap and looks at least somewhat interesting. Well, OK, I won't lie – on the outside, this PSU looks anything but interesting. It's a plain gray box with colorful “spaghetti cables”.

What mostly drew me into buying it is its 2x PCI-E power connectors...

Xbox One Controller - Phantom stick activity (sticks completely uninstalled)
                  by Aimbit
                  Hi All,

I bought some used Xbox one controllers "as is/untested" and they both have the same issue. The joysticks go wild for no reason while plugged in.

                  https://youtube.com/shorts/YTYtjUPkBX0?feature=share

I removed both joysticks assuming it was an issue with the sticks, but the video posted here is the activity of the sticks with no sticks installed! My only guess is one of the tiny IC's that reads the inputs is broken. There are two small ones near either joystick, and then one larger one. I found a replacement on Aliexpress for the larger one...

Stagg sms12p audio amp has water damage
                  by edugimeno
Hi! My friend just brought this audio amplifier/speaker fro his music band saying they realized its got no sound. Led powers up but there no sound at all
I opened it and found 3 board. 2 of them are for input plugs and potentiometers, and the other larger board has the amplifiers for 2 large speakers that it drives
There's also a large toroid transformer that feeds a lower voltage to the first 2 boards and a larger voltaje (36x2 rectified close to 100v) to the power board. The power board has the plugs for both speakers
There is only one signal wire connecting the first boards...

Replacing caps in an old speaker system. Should I use a higher value here?
                  by Delicieuxz
I'm recapping an old Creative Labs / Cambridge speaker system / subwoofer. At 4:33 in this video, the person looking at what he says are the speaker caps in the system says they are 470 uF, and that he'd use much larger caps if he was building it.

                  https://youtu.be/1LRIzePlma0?t=273

I'm wondering if I should use something larger for the recap job, and what using larger caps will do for it.

Would 680uF be good value to try in place of the 470uF originals?

                  Samsung Syncmaster 740BF repair
                  by soopacrucial
                  Hi folks,

I'm new here and was wondering whether you might be kind enough to give me some advice on troubleshooting the following problem:

Quite a few years ago now, a couple of years from new, my Samsung Syncmaster 740BF LCD monitor starting playing up by making a buzzing noise and then the display would go blank. I seem to remember the blue power led would also go off when this happened but that I'm not 100% sure of. By pressing the power button I do remember I could at first get it working again but eventually the problem would come back. At the time I had read about...
