Two layers Supercapacitor farad capacitor polarity?

Hi, I got supercap but I can't find where he have "+" and "-"? There are only triangle arrows on the side - what does it mean? Maybe it mean, that "-" is on the top?
I read somewhere that supercaps may have no polarity, is it true?

Re: Two layers Supercapacitor farad capacitor polarity?

Usually the arrow points to the negative terminal. However if it is a old cap it could go either way. The below is a test that can be done although the author does not guarantee 100 % success in the measurement.

    Try this.
I have used the following method for many years with complete success. This does not mean that it is sure to work for you but that it has a good chance of doing so. When an aluminum electrolytic capacitor is operated with correct polarity the case operates at a slightly positive voltage relative to the negative terminal.
If the capacitor is operated with reverse polarity the case voltage is substantially more positive than when polarity is correct.
A PCB with many capacitors on can be checked by measuring Vcase relative to ground for capacitors with their negative lead grounded. (Otherwise measure Vacse to v- for that cap).
Reverse polarity capacitors will have substantially higher Vcase-Vnegative. This works extremely well in practice. (I have never seen this effect commented on anywhere else).
    Testing:
Use a voltage less than half of the capacitor's working voltage.
    (1) Apply voltage to capacitor pins and measure voltage from -ve pin to case.
    (2) Reverse voltage and repeat.
The arrangement which has the LOWER voltage on the case relative to the negative pin is the correct one.
eg say you used a 2V supply.
In orientation 1 the case was at say +0.5V relative to negative.
In orientation 2 the case was at say 0.15V relative to negative.
    Orientation 2 is correct.

Thanks for Your reply! It is very valuable knowledge for me, and I definitely will use it in the future. But in this case, we can see - that one side of cap is one polarity pin. So there is no case of cap, like in a cap, that have two legs on one side.
I think, that this arrows show that "-" is on the top of cap. I will give him 5.5V in this situation and observe
P.S. It havent 1.5F, I knew that is fake - good quality LCR meter shows only 2mF

Help Needed: Reverse Polarity Issue on HP EliteBook 840 G4 – Where Do I Begin?
        by Dev Goose
Hi everyone, I recently acquired an HP EliteBook 840 G4 (6050A2854301-MB-A01) that I'm hoping to bring back to life. I'm fairly new to laptop repairs but eager to learn and willing to put in the effort to understand and fix this. Any advice or guidance would mean a lot!

        What Happened
The issue started when the laptop was accidentally plugged in with reverse polarity. Before this incident, the laptop would show a power/charging light whenever it was plugged in. However, now it's completely unresponsive—no lights, no power, nothing. I've been doing some research and understand

Lithium 12v tool battery charger... no negative connection?
        by budwich
I have a drill and battery but no charger so I bought a "universal charger" 120ac in ... 12vdc out (not really universal in lithium world). Anyway it has three contacts, positive, negative and "T" (temperature sensor). I connected those contacts to the contacts on the battery. No charging happened and only the status light is on (green solid) which the label indicates "100% charged".... but the battery isn't near that at around 9v and dying. There doesn't appear to be any difference whether the battery is connected or not. I got suspicious and pulled the...

Asus E410 only works on battery after reverse polarity
        by Kervin Mathumbu
Hi everyone. Fixed my AC and despite trying to be extra careful, I reversed polarity and got a notable pop sound. Now the PC will only work on battery. Windows still shows the battery as charging but the count actually goes down until empty (I have two of the same laptops).

I have board R3.0 so the schematics on another thread here do not match mine. I have tested the BQ charge IC and my pin 1, 2 and 3 have 3.35v each - instead of 18v or 19v. Could this be a bad BQ IC or capacitor? Any thoughtful advise sould be greatly appreciated.

        Theory on Negative Voltages Please...

        Hi there,

Last year I was trying to repair a laser machine that required +12v and -12v to control the servos for the mirrors. I did not fix the power supply but was trying to test it using an ATX power supply. The + side worked a bit but the negative did not, I tested the current draw through the meter on the +ve side and it was around 3 amp and so the -ve side could not pull enough since the ATX was only rated at 0.8 amp and tested at 1 amp through the meter.

Last night while building a bench power supply I had an idea and after some reading thought it should work....

Biomass Boiler not driving cleaner motor relay. ENERTRES BIOMASA BI-650
        by edugimeno
        Hi everyone!
I have this board that suddenly stopped supplying power to an output that drives an interchanger cleaner motor.
I checked while the board was in place with all wires attached and there's no AC voltage on the corresponding plug X5
This X5 is driven by fuse F8 (tested OK) which comes from the second orange relay
To make sure there are no charcoaled contacts inside the relay, I got a 24VDC power supply and got it ready to manually power up the coil side of these relays.
I respected the polarity, positive to cathode of protecting diode
        So provided all...
