    Please Help!!

Hi, i recently acquired an old pc from a friend and he was telling me that sometimes the screen turned off randomly, so when i got it i changed the power supply to one that i already had, put different ram, a new gfx card and a clean hard drive with windows XP. Luckily i didnt have to purchase any of this as i already had these spare components.

HOWEVER the pc still switches off the monitor randomly and goes into a freeze. I cant press num-lock, ctrl-alt-del or anything and the computer is stuck running with no output to the monitor. Sometimes it takes 5 mins for this to occur but sometimes it won't happen at all. I can't even turn it off from the power switch on the pc when it does happen, i have to turn it off from the power-point!! And sometimes the pc doesnt even load the BIOS when i turn on my pc again. Btw i am using a different monitor to the one my friend had.

Then i came across this site and was a little intrigued. I am pretty sure that i have badcaps but take a look at these pics and tell me what you think...is it definitely badcaps??

All that orange stuff is only coming out of the capcitors around the CPU. Luckily i didnt purchase any upgrades for the PC.

SO all i wanna know is it definitely bad capacitors causing these problems???

    Thanks

    Re: Please Help!!

Yes, it is definitely bad capacitors, these bad caps seems are 1500uF 6.3v D8mm, just replace them with good caps is ok.

I suggest you should replace all the same brands of bad caps on your motherbaords if possible.
    My SAMXON Capacitors Database HERE!!

X-CON is a new brand for SAMXON's Polymer Capacitors.

      Re: Please Help!!

      Oh its defiantly bad caps
but thats to start with ...if it still posting but hanging there's fair chance a recap will fix it

What is the Mother Board ?...
they look like they might be GSC caps if so make sure you replace ALL 330 uF and up
(well anything with a vent can be advised, depending)
(replace all anyway is best idea)

It looks like the Output VRM caps are all history,
The Input caps (etc) look OK but replace them as well is the best Idea

If you dont know how to recap
there are guides and lots of posts on it , look in the FAQ to start with.

Alternatively contact TopCat forum owner if you wish to send out for recap.

lastly sometimes memory can be screwed cause of bad caps so I think its important to put that through it paces too.

      welcome and Cheers

        Re: Please Help!!

The Vcore output capacitors are definitely blown, but it's possible some of the blown caps could also connect to something else. Impossible to say without multimeter testing.

Point is, you may find that it runs a little better with a slower CPU or downclocking the existing one. But even if that works it's not going to last very long, it really needs to be fixed, retired, or sold to someone else who will fix it.
Don't put anything in there that you really care about, boards with dying caps can sometimes ruin your components.

By the time the board stops working completely, it has much less chance of recovery. As long as it's still semi-working, it can probably be fixed.

          just to add
The symptoms you describe are typical of failed caps
just so you know next time to look.

This happens a lot with psu's too and can give the same symptoms

Also caps can fail and not show signs of it

Here is willawake's post on how to recap

          https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=485

And practice on junk first is my advice

read posts around here and you will get to know what to look for with regard to caps and MB failures

          cheers

I am taking a guess that the motherboard is a Gigabyte motherboard?? That has to be the worst case of badcaps that i've seen in ages .
Am I seeing things or is that CPU fan missing one of its fan fins??

thats a classic case of blown caps alright!
                    welcome to badcaps forums!
btw in the future you are likely to get better responses to your problem if you post the make/model/symptoms/ect instead of please help in the title.

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

                      AOC AG493UCX 49-inch monitor - Firmware request
                      by wattage
                      Hello Badcaps Community,

I purchased a preowned AOC monitor that is not working and out of warranty. It was sold as not working. I am looking for guidance on self-repair. In particular, I am after the firmware for the monitor. At the end, I have included monitor model information and links to pics and vids of the issue.

The problem is that it will not display a picture on any of its inputs. And the on-screen menu does not appear. The power button works properly. It powers on with the remote as well. But the on-screen menu does not appear, even when not connected to any...

Wise Wing F199 19'' LCD monitor - recapped
                      by momaka
Looking through my repair pictures and notes, it's been a long time since I posted anything in the LCD monitors section. So here goes that.

I'm dedicating this thread to one of the very first LCD monitors I repaired (if not the first one), which was more than 10 years ago now. The monitor is a Wise Wing, model F199. It's a 19” CFL-backlit LCD. I got it for free off of Craigslist in 2009 from a guy, who said he bought it for cheap from Wallmart and the monitor worked only for a little less than 2 years before quitting.

When I saw the Craigslist post, I wasn't...
