I've got a reference 680i T1, which I've just traded out via RMA with a reference 680i BR which just pulled a C1 memory killer on me. One thing I've noticed was that the boards used different caps
The BR, the first revision, used samxon caps on the PCI/PCI-E slots and in random, smaller places - but used Rubycon MCZ 16v 1800uf on the right hand corner, on top of the ATX 24 connector, and several other Rubycon MCZs to the left of the CPU.
The T1, the new revision, uses exclusively samxon caps throughout the entire board. The 16v 1800uf MCZs have been replaced by samxon 16v 1800uf GC(M) along with the ones to the left of the CPU.
I've looked around and it seems that samxon and rubycon GC and MCZ seem to be neck and neck, with the MCZ being slightly better but would it be worth it to trade out the samxons with MCZs?
Also, I've noticed several, non-reference 680is that use all solid caps. for example - this MSI http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.c...id=2182&page=1. Would it be possible to recap my 680i board with solids? Also, I've noticed that the solid caps seem to have lower capacitance... but yes I realize that ECR is better on solids than electrolytic caps... but 1800uf MCZ vs 470uf solid? Are solids that earth shattering against MCZs in motherboard apps when overclocking? Lastly, are the solids more sensitive to heat than electrolytic when soldering?
I'm sorry for all the questions, I'm a total n00b when it comes to the finer points of recapping. I've attached some pics of the new board along with a single pic of the MCZ on the old board, which I just sent back in. Thanks!
