    Does Size Matter?

I've got a TV board with the bad caps. The data on them are as follows:

    CapXon 1000uf 10v 105c P727

I ordered some replacements with the following data:

    Sanyo 1000uf 10v 105c S.E.83 WG

My question is the Sanyo's are about a third smaller than the CapXon caps that are bad. Will I be ok to use the Sanyo's or should the physical size match as well?

    Thank you

    your missing some info,
    the sanyo are WG series.
    what are the capxon ?

you can get the datasheets for them here:

      Re: Does Size Matter?

You are correct stj. They are LZ series.

Please forgive me, I"m new to repairing TVs. Up until this point I've only done screens on cellphones, tablets and PC repair.

How can I tell if the Sany's will work?

cmpare the ESR & ripple numbers.

The ripple rating for the CapXon for this size cap is 1450 - 1500.
The ripple rating for the Sany cap is 1140.
I'm reading what "ripple rating" is, but the seems like a big difference to me.

            Re: Does Size Matter?

Ok, so in short, I shouldn't use the Sanyo caps. They'll overheat and pop sooner than later because they're not designed to take the current that the CapXons are.

Am I correct with how I'm interpreting this data?

Thank you very much, stj. I found some Nichicon HM that should do that trick and learned a lot with your help. I really appreciate it!

                Re: Does Size Matter?

                o.k.
ripple is the amount of spikes or dips the cap can handle - bigger is better.
                ESR is internal resistance,
the ESR can roughly be seen as the cap's reaction speed - lower is better within reason.

where are you getting those numbers you posted btw?

the sanyo WG datasheet says 1000uf 10v:
                  8mm 1490ma .028esr
                  10mm 1540ma .026esr

                  the capxon LZ
                  8mm 1450ma .029esr
                  10mm 1500ma .027esr

so they are actually a damned close match!

                    Re: Does Size Matter?

Well I misread the chart. I went down the 10v column, then used the Case size column, completely ignoring the uF column on the far left. Should I be worried about the case size though of my caps? They're closer to 8x12.5 than 8x16 or 10x12.5.

Thanks again though! I'm learning a lot, eventually my noob questions will pass.

                      Re: Does Size Matter?

case size only matters if you cant fit the replacement.
for example, some monitors like dell use short fat caps because of low clearance.
if you tried fitting thin tall ones you would not get the boards back into the case!

Yes, as long as the ESR etc is correct, the can size is not an issue.
