Let me rephrase this entire thread for you, I purchased an Ibm Eserver off eBay and when I was inspecting the motherboard I seen that there was some floating capacitors that were soldered on to the copper traces above the surface of the motherboard indicating that someone had previously attempted a repair but didn't have the correct equipment and wasn't able to fully remove the old capacitors or clean the solder in though hole where the capacitor leads go through. I started this thread with the advocacy to find out will this bodge repair job affect the performance of the motherboard, I was going to replace them all and solder new capacitors in anyway but I was wandering will such a repair work. The reason why I had to keep the one capacitor in the top left hand corner floating was because the person who attempted the repair I am guessing cut the original capacitor off the motherboard leaving its lead in the though hole because they couldn't melt the solder to remove the old capacitor, apart from that I was able to replace and properly solder all the other capacitors in, just the one I had to leave floating because there is a lead stuck in there and removing would have ripped the trace off the motherboard therefor ruining it. I have uploaded pictures of my repair work just above your post in them you can see that all off them are now soldered in properly apart from the one that has the lead stuck in there, the motherboard works perfectly fine.

Yeah, but the only bit that doesn't make sense is why you couldn't desolder the lead he left?

If you were able to desolder all the other capacitors I don't see why there should be any reason to rip a trace if you desolder it properly, unless the previous work on that particular capacitor was done very badly.

Because when the capacitor was cut off the lead was bent outwards and made wider im guessing due to the cutters being blunt. I have tried melting the solder and sucking it though, Ive tried using the hot air gun then pushing a small lead though but its completely blocked and from the other side the trace is slightly lifting off the board and will break off if I keep on trying to clean that hole and I dont want to ruin the board so I have kept that one capacitor floating as the others said its fine to solder it above the board.

Ah, I get it now. Yeah it's a pity when someone else does shoddy work.. still, like you say, I'm sure your repair is perfectly fine and will work for a long time

ASUS ROG Strix G713QR - Keyboard, backlight and side LEDs don't work
              by hollox123
Hello, I have an "ASUS ROG Strix G713QR" laptop, and for approx. 3 months I have the following problems:

              1. Laptop keyboard doesn't work
              2. The backlight on the laptop keyboard doesn't work
              3. The x2 side LEDs (red) on the laptop don't work

The power button works, the touchpad works, and all the USB, HDMI, Ethernet, etc. ports work.

I already tried to reinstall all the drivers and reinstall Windows. So I don't know what to try anymore that is software-related.

But I am strongly aiming that it is somehow a BIOS-related problem,...

lenovo 330s-15ikb, led num lock key always on and numbers don't work
              by resistor83
hello everyone, I have a particular problem with this lenovo ideapad 330s-15ikb. I had to replace the motherboard due to liquid damage, after replacing it I noticed that some letters on the keyboard do not work. So I bought a new keyboard and now all the keys work except the numeric keypad area. In practice the num lock key LED always remains on and the numbers do not work. Has anything like this ever happened to you? I also tried changing the keyboard again but the same defect remains on the numeric keypad.

I tried updating the bios but the problem remains

I just bought a used one for a decent price for a used device it prints very nicely and clean and clearly so I am not going to complain about it but I would like to get it working again anyone have any suggestions on how to repair this back light

If I can not get the controller to work properly then I will probably have an external power supply for the backlight because it is difficult to see the screen without out it

My touchpad doesn't work, Asus laptop motherboard X455LJ REV 3.1
              by Rhaverz
              Good afternoon friends

I have an Asus laptop motherboard X455LJ REV 3.1 that the touch pad does not work, I was trying to check if something was wrong at the drive level but I did all the necessary installations and the touchpad still does not work.

I have a feeling that the error goes more to the board level because the touchpad is not recognized by the device manager and it is supposed that even if it does not work correctly it has to be detected.

I even checked that the data bus made a connection between the touchpad and the motherboard and everything...

              ASUS P5GC-MX motherboard recap
              by momaka
Here’s another motherboard that needed a full recap: an ASUS P5GC-MX.
This one was gifted to me some years ago by user Pentium 4, along with a few other goodies. It actually came in working order with no bulging or leaking caps. However, I noted there were United Chemicon KZG caps everywhere on the motherboard. The CPU VRM output (CPU V_core) was the only exception: it had only 2x KZG. The rest was 6x UCC TMV 4V 680 uF caps… which aren’t any good news either.

So here is what the motherboard looked like with its original caps:

              CPU VRM area up close…...
