Update: Low ESRs from JayCar (Aust & NZ) don't last

The caps I sourced from JayCar in Auckland were installed 2 years ago for my first Soltek 75KAV mobo, and 1 year ago for the second.

Both mobos now exhibit slight bulging and leaking.

Jaycar in Australia used to sell Samxon GF, green colour sleeve, in the 1000uf 10v and 2200uf 10v, which were the ones I needed

Now they offer Suntan brand, black colour sleeve, which don't look as good quality

Suntan bungs on bottom are flat, look similar to poor quality brands like GSC and CHSSI, whereas Samxon bungs have sculpted shape like decent quality Japanese brands
better to keep quiet and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt

The ones I bought from them are Suntan brand, although their online catalog shows pics of Samxon brand (see pic). Maybe they've changed brands. They assured me that Suntan caps would do the job nicely.

I can't speak as to the quality of Suntan brand. However, I've never had any problems with Samxon. I've had some Samxon caps in a testing environment for over a year now, in lets just say less than ideal conditions, and they're holding up well.

That's interesting Topcat. Is your test circuit easily replicated, as in DIY? Do you mind sharing?

              thats the public test.

The ones I'm primarily referring to are in PC PSU's. The most notable is an Aopen microATX PSU, which is very small and gets very hot. I use that system daily, have been for over a year, no issues. It's recapped with Samxon GA and GC series caps.

Very cool Topcat. The ole power supply torture test

BTW, I've sent a bunch of info on conductive polymer aluminum solid caps to JayCar and their purchasing dept. Hopefully they'll be stirred enough to look into stocking them.

I found the same thing when searching locally for Low ESR capacitors, the local Jaycar rep' tried pushing those POS Suntans when all I was asking for was Samxon

FWIW I can further confirm Samxon quality as I've used them almost entirely to recap a number of motherboards (with the exception of some EXR Hitanos & FJ Pannys) & PSU's all still in use as 24/7 F@H rigs

If your attempt to get Jaycar's purchasing dept. educated doesn't succeed, it may be worthwhile contacting Big Pope of these forums and arranging something between you RE: Samxon GA/GC series
