Identification of capacitors on MSI mainboard

    Hello,

im try to finde out, which capacitors MSI on their mainboard "H87I" use.

    Picture from the mainboard:

I hope anyone can help me and know, which manufacturer this capacitors produce, and if they are good or not. Oftern the mainboard manufacturers advertise, that the capacitors all are "100% japanese made" to accent the quality. But on the MSI site, the capacitor only called "Hi-c CAP" or "Dark CAP" which is not really a statement for quality.

Thank you for reading an maybe someone can tell me the manufacturer.
    Tom.

A close up picture of the cap top and sides would help - please post pictures
using "manage Attachements" rather than posting in line.
Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

Thank you for your answer. I tried to find a better picture of the capacitors on the mainboard. I found some pictures which show the caps a little bit better, but also not very closeup, sorry.

MSI's marketing picture does not necessarily show which components the product sold to consumers will actually have

        For example, this thread https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=26130
better to keep quiet and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt

Ok, thank you for information. The first postet picture is the marketing picture of MSI, that's correct. But the second one are pictures from a review report of an MSI mainboard. So it seems, that MSI realy use this "dark CAPs" for their products. Maybe this is a custom-built capacitor especially for MSI?

I understand. However, thank you for trying to identify the capacitors! Can you maybe tell me a web page or something near it with an overview of pictures from different manufacturer of polymer-capacitors?

Re: Identification of capacitors on MSI mainboard

These capacitors are just plain low esr polymer capacitors from Nichicon, Nippon Chemi Con or other brands.
They just ordered a large enough volume to make a custom batch colored dark and reprintered with that gray paint.

Initially I was confused by the markings because as far as I'm aware only Panasonic uses that small line to mark the negative side, but they only make surface mount capacitors with that mark. Their radial leaded polymer capacitors are OS-CON branded and have a magenta/dark pink band.

Asrock used high quality low esr , 2000h@105c Nichicon LF capacitors and named them "Premium Golden Caps" :

                http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/X79%20Extreme3/
Premium Gold Caps are luxury capacitors. These 100% Japan-made solid capacitors are sleek, high gloss caps with a premium gold coating representing long life and stable performance.
luxury caps - not really, they're available retail and not that expensive. high gloss caps - what's this got to do with performance?, gold coating - won't do shit for performance, it's just aesthetics.

It was just marketing... and it's the same with MSI.

You forgot about the sleeveless Panasonic FLs Asus used to use:

But you're right, I don't think the markings on those caps resemble these.
"We have offered them (the Arabs) a sensible way for so many years. But no, they wanted to fight. Fine! We gave them technology, the latest, the kind even Vietnam didn't have. They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

Re: Identification of capacitors on MSI mainboard

Okay, thank you for the explanation. But in the case if Asrock, the "golden CAPs" have tha same marking and the same marking stile, as common polymer capacitors from Nichicon. Also in the promotion of Asrock they write "100% japan made" to accent the quality of this capacitors.

In case of MSI the marking text of the capacitors dosent looks like any famous capacitors of an japanese manufacturer. Also in the promotion text MSI never allude, that the capacitors are japan made.

So, if that black MSI capacitor are really relabeled ones of a common japanese manufacturer, so I think it's a bad marketing of MSI.
