    Can i replace nichicon 1800uf 6.3v for ruby 820uf 6.3v

As the title says.. I have 820uf 6.3v Rubycons

I want to know if i can replace them for my Dell's Nichicon 1800uf 6.3v caps that bloated and died.

it would not be recommended to decrease capacitance so the 3300uf would be best.

Well my Dell gx270 mobo has 9 bloated caps alongside the CPU. Would it be safe to replace all nine (1800 uF 6.3v) with 3300uf.. 6.3...

I also have 1500 uf 6.3's in stock... want to get this machine up already..

What series for the various vendors?

            depends on series.
low esr 820 may be ok if like a mbz 8mm x 25 like the ones i have.
i see 1500-1800 in 8mm on some boards and a different batch has 820
the 820 has a lower esr than the 1500-1800

well i just loaded the 3300uF 6.3 in replacement for the busted 1800uf 6.3

Am i looking at mobo failure. Seems to be running nice now.

I plan on purchasing a kit from here regardless and get the proper stuff. I just needed to get this machine up and running.

I've used 1500uF MBZ's in place of those 1800uF Nichi's many times, never had any issues. I would not use 820uF or 3300uF, that's a bit too extreme.

would you go as far as 3300 uf? cause that means tomorrow i will be popping out these 3300's and putting in 1500 uF's

Rhetorical question sorry. Would i be safe to leave those 3300uf's in my machine for about a week... if not for about 48 hours

the only boards i used the 820's in were ones that i have seen with both.
i agree that without knowlege of the board being produced alternatly with 820 and 1500 not to try that sub.
in a pinch one can check that all those caps are in paralel and stuff every other space with 3300 in place of 1500.
most vrm output caps are chosen for low esr and also price.esp with cheapie mfr's that use cheap parts just adequate to work.leaves a big margin for higher value part without issue.

Considering that premium caps are spec'ed at +/- 20%, would it not be safe to apply a rule of thumb: go up in capacitance within 20%, and no worries?

For example, replace 1500 uF with 1800uF. The larger cap is exactly 20% higher than the smaller.
