    My cap fell off!

Hey guys! I was taking out my gpu and a cap fell off, even though it was no where near the mobo :O I really don't have any clue but I thought I would rather attempt to solder it on than buy a new mobo as my warranty obviously doesn't cover this!

The cap is from a Asus M5A97 Pro board and on it, it just says.

    FP5K
    19Ak
    2 7 1
    1 6

I really don't have a clue what this means but does anyone know where I can get a new one? Also how do I get rid of the remaining pins still in the mobo? Many thanks!

Is it broken - can you just solder it back in/on.
    Pictures might help

The first one shows the pins sticking out, the second of the cap and the third of the pins from the cap.

This is what you want but you dont want 5!!

WE dont usually recommend ebay lots of fakes about.

You can start looking and perhaps other uk members will know.
Perhaps you can use a non polymer cap.

If you don't use those PCI Express x1 slots, you could just leave it like that.

But it's a really weird capacitor issue, strange, normally capacitors don't just fall like that.

Anyway, it's a 270uF 16v capacitor, ideally you use a functional polymer or a polymer capacitor, not a regular electrolytic.

If you can only get electrolytic capacitors locally (from a quality brand like Nichicon or United Chemi Con or Rubycon), I suppose you could use a 820uF-1000uF 16v capacitor - you'd need this much capacitance to make sure the ESR and ripple are at least close to a polymer capacitor's specs.

As for removing those pins... put some solder on the other side of the board on top of the already existing solder for those pins is, grab some tweezers from your mom/buy some, and as you have the solder gun tip on the solder, grab the pin with the tweezer and pull out. You'll have to be a bit fast because the tweezers would cool down the pins and solder quite fast if your solder iron sucks.

You guys are absolutely amazing! I'll definitely be needing those pci slots in the future but wow, this forum has been great! Thank you so much
