Help me find a compatable/comparable capicitor

    Hi all,

I have several devices/motherboards that need caps. Going to be shopping for them soon. But, the matter at hand is a Tivo power supply in a SD-DVR 80 that has a bad cap causing it to not power up or, if it does power up, reboots itself. This known to be a common problem on these units so I want to replace the one bad cap on this power supply but I'm having a hard time finding the cap I want to use.

From reading different forums, I have found this cap to be:
    C18 GREEN - 2200uf / 16V (Teapo SC) - 13mm x 25mm : UPW1C222MHD

    I did find at mouser:
    http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...jvj%252btMrr8n
    Mouser Part #: 647-UPW1C222MHD
    Manufacturer Part #: UPW1C222MHD
    Manufacturer: Nichicon
    Description: Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors - Leaded 16volts 2200uF 12.5x25 20% 5LS

Looks like this would work? BUT, I've also read that in order for this not to happen again, it should be replaced with a slightly higher voltage, especially if you have upgraded the hard drive inside, which I have.

So, I would like to find a good quality cap that matches the spec here but in maybe a 12.5/13mmx25mm 25v Low Impedance 105c

    Thanks!

I have had a quick look cant see a 25v cap that physical size.
Is the height critical - may be a 32mm one, otherwise I think
you will be stuck with a 16v. In the articles you have read did it not
    suggest a suitable cap?
In any case the one you suggested will probably be far superior than the Teapo
Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

That mouser page looks like it's useless to filter by dimensions, at least to me the values listed in the descriptions are incorrect.

Use Digikey.com or Farnell/Newark to find some series that would work, then look those up on Mouser by the capacitor code

I don't think going up in voltage would make a difference electrically, the suggestion was probably made because capacitors are higher voltage are usually longer life. With two hard drives, the Tivo would heat more so it makes sense to use more resilient capacitors.

I'd suggest going with Panasonic FR series, 2200uF/16v - it's low esr and it's rated for 10.000 hours @ 105c

If you really want higher voltage, i'd suggest dropping the capacity to 1800uF and use the same Panasonic FR or other top series like Nichicon HM, UCC KZE, Panasonic FM.,. but I really don't think there's any point to it.

Re: Help me find a compatable/comparable capicitor

Teapo rates their SC series as a 3000 hour (at max. rated ripple current and temperature) series. I can not find, in English, a catalog where I can find the impedance of the parts, and my Mandarin is pretty much non-existent. Anyway, here are the web catalogs for Nichicon, United Chemicon (UCC) and Panasonic, and some possible equal or better (possibly better and much better) replacements:

        Nichicon
        2200Uf, 16v, PW - UPW1C222MHD, 30 m-Ohm, 10000 hours
        2200Uf, 16v, PA - UPA1C222MHD, 22 m-Ohm, 5000 hours
        1500uF, 25V, HE - UHE1E152MHD, 27 m-Ohm, 10000 hours
        1800Uf, 25v, PA - UPA1E182MHD, 22 m-Ohm, 5000 hours

        United Chemicon
        2200Uf, 16v, LXZ - ELXZ160E222MK25S, 30 m-Ohm, 7000 hours
        1500uF, 25V, KY - EKY250E152MK25S, 27 m-Ohm, 10000 hours
        1500uF, 25V, KZE - EZE250E152MK25S, 18 m-Ohm, 5000 hours
        2200Uf, 25v, LZA - ELZA250E222MK25S, 22 m-Ohm, 5000 hours
        2200uF, 25V, KYA - EKYA250E222MK25S, 27 m-Ohm, 10000 hours

        Panasonic
        2200Uf, 16v, FC - EEUFC1C222, 30 m-Ohm, 5000 hours
        2200Uf, 16v, FK - EEUFK1C222, 29 m-Ohm, 5000 hours
        1800Uf, 25v, FK - EEUFK1E182, 22 m-Ohm, 5000 hours
        1500Uf, 25v, FM - EEUFM1E182, 15 m-Ohm, 7000 hours
        1800Uf, 25v, FP - EEUFP1E182, 15 m-Ohm, 10000 hours

Availability is going to play the largest part in choosing what you buy. Disties in the US who sell to individuals are Allied, Digikey, Mouser and Newark. I'd recommend sticking with them. Maybe they've changed their lines, but they probably carry some or all of: Nichicon PW and HE; UCC LXZ, KY and KZE; Panasonic FC and FM. Basically: PW = LXZ = FC; KY = HE; KZE = FM. If you can find Nichicon PA, UCC LZA or Panasonic FK in 2200uF (preferred) or 1800uF, 25V, 12.5mm x 25mm, grab them! The bottom line, PW, LXZ and FC are all probably better for impedance and ripple current than the Teapo SC, plus being more reliable parts. Nichicon HE, PA, UCC LZA, KY, KZE and Panasonic FK and FP have still better impedance and ripple current ratings.

Power Supplies should be boring: No loud noises, no bright flashes, and no bad smells.

I've posted the data sheet for the Teapo SC in the forum before, but here it is again. Grab it.
