    what caps are these?

    i need to know what caps these are, and if they are any good quality. im looking to replace them with higher capacitance ones. also, is the cirlced area a place for a capacitor? any thoughts on replace this with a small aluminum can cap? anyone see other spots to add caps possibly?

      but what about the value of the other caps? they have 1200 and 1500 on them, im guessing thats uf. but how do i figure out what volts? google gives me nothing.

          In the circle seems to be an ceramic cap, i wouldn`t replace it, due to the fact that larger al Elektrolytic can`t filter or bypass high frequenzy noise. The other caps could be replaced, but i would take some oscons as those are better suited for high temperature and ripple currents. But may be ist is difucult to get some with high voltage and capacity.

              what about working with the power coming in off the molex? put some caps between the psu and the card.

              how do these cards work anyway, do they still take power from the agp or just the molex or both. do they take only the 5v off the molex?

                The caps shown are good quality. Why do you want to replace them or add others in parallel?

                What problem makes this necessary?

                  I'll second Davmax - there's nothing visibly wrong with the large SMT Nichicons. OTOH, there seems to be a component (probably a regulator or power IC) that burnt or soldered itself off above the Y6 oscillator - what was that and why did that happen?

                    there was never anything there to begin with. there is alot of missing components because the manufacturer uses the same pcb for the x550, as well as 256mb versions.

                    @davmax,

                    the problem is i need more speed. if replacing caps, or adding caps will give me another few mhz, i will do it.

                    @willawake,

                    good idea, what would you suggest for caps? and would inductors be usefull at all? (lines may be screwy since i have a pump in the case.)

                    and they draw of agp slot, 5v line, but draw mostly from 12v line. probably at least 4-5 amps on the 12v line.

                      Identifying caps on an old Zoom 9000
                      by Paxman_Swede
                      Hello!

                      I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

                      The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

                      I have studied the board and...

                      I've been seeing a lot of cheap-looking (but not always so cheap) no-name AGP video cards on eBay for a while. They started popping up quite a bit when the market for AGP cards became more alive all of a sudden due to interest in “retro” PCs. One thing that struck me about these cheapo cards is that they almost always seem to come with garbage caps - including the abominable Sacon FZ. That aside, though, I've been wondering about the rest of the quality (or lack of?) on these cards. So I decided to satisfy my curiosity yet again.

                      This one was actually suggested to me by ChaosLegionnaire....

                      Caps and how to find one to replace
                      by edith
                      Hello everyone I have a question. I have a laptop and his schematic. Can anyone tell me how to measure or any way to understand specific of caps so i can buy new one?

                      Also in case how can I understand if some caps of some dead Mobo i have, are ok to be replaced in my new motherboard which im trying to fix?

                      Thank you!

                      It's feeling like this board has a case of badcaps, instability and reboots - and not wanting to necro a a very old thread, it seems the 680uF 4V are highly suspect.
                      I don't really want to blanket recap everything, but maybe the others around that area could do with being changed?

                      Equipment: I have a temperature controlled soldering station, read the bit where it says set to 400F, don't think I would have gone that high without reading that.
                      Spring plunger solder sucker, and some desolder braid... and a bit of good old leaded 60/40.

                      Seasonic B12 BC-550 – barely 2 years old and with BAD CAPS already!

                      I know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.

                      For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

                      It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:
