    New type of cap failure? Can this board be saved?

    Hello! First post but I've been lurking from time to time.

    I have an industrial PC board manufactured around '99 that I'd like to use. I got it from a flea market but it was boxed and looks like it has never been opened.

    However, some of the caps looks like they couldn't hold it any longer. For this reason, I haven't tried powering up the board yet.

    This looks quite different from the usual bad caps problems discussed on this forum. And EVERY single one of the 6.3V green caps show this leakage (if that's what it is), but not a single one of the other caps.

    What is this stuff?

    Should I use any special procedure to clean the board before trying to desoldering the caps?

      That's just caulk. - Silicon sealer.
      It's used like glue to hold the parts still while they get soldered in.
      Very common practice but not usually on motherboards.

              yup. i've never seen it on motherboards, how strange. I wonder if this 'industrial' board was recapped back 10 years ago. Those are Sanyos, good caps

                          I have an FIC PA2007 Socket 7 mobo (VIA VP2 chipset, no AGP slot) that was manufactured in 1997-1998 with Sanyo caps in some spots:



                          And at the left of the bottom photo is a yellow tantalum cap, marked 226 and either 425K or 475K

                              I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

                              Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

                              I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

                              The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

                              With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                              Replacement caps for Samson Resolv studio monitor 65A Amp board.

                              Good day!

                              I have a Samson Resolv studio monitor that has no sound output. I've opened it up and found two caps that are bulging on what I believe to be the power supply section of the amplifier board. The board is marked Resolv 65A AMP V1.2. The caps in question are YUSCON, 2200uF, 35V, 85C temp and have markings of RA(P) and are 16mm x 25.5mm tall. I've attached the schematic and the caps in question are C5 and C6. I'm assuming they are low esr caps. I've tested both caps and they test low uF, nowhere near 2200uF.

                              I'm going to replace the caps and I'll be the first...

                              Replacing all the caps on the BenQ SW2700pt's power board didn't help...

                              My 3.5 years old monitor (BenQ SW2700pt) started to black out for 1-2 sec every minute or so, it was doing this even with PC disconnected from it. I searched online and read that it's probably aging capacitors and there's a workaround to lower the brightness.

                              I lowered it from 100 to 65% and it indeed helped, but after a couple of months the issue returned... I continued to lower the brightness, but it helped only for a couple of hours at most, then I needed to lower it further... Turning the monitor off and waiting for it to cool down also helped for a short time, after which it...
