Re: Samsung le40r88bd Clicking, All caps tested ok

hey Guys, Im new to posting but have always found my answers here and never really need to post after searching. Now i need to post. Like the OP here I am having similar issues with a samsung LCD LNS4041dx/xxa. replaced the caps that were bad and power supply is giving all correct voltages so I suspect the main boards eeprom needs a jump. But with all the 8 leg chips that look similar on both the front and backl tof the board i just cant seem to figure out which one to jumper. most from what I have read say to its the chip reading 24c.. on the back of the board. Only chip I have with 24c anything is on the fron of the board bout an inch above the usb service connector. Am I safe to assume that this is the eeprom? Main Board number is BN94-00963E. Any Help would be greatly appreciated
      Jay

Re: Samsung le40r88bd Clicking, All caps tested ok

If anyone comes across this problem in the future, if you replace the eeprom with a blank one, It sees the blank Chip and loads the ROM data back to it..
This wont happen with a corrupt I.C.
If you do it this way it saves the hassle of trying to set loads of data up in the service manual.
We fix these all the time, and the corrupt eeprom usually follows the bad caps fault.

@masaudio, so what is the procedure for loading the new blank chip? It will automatically load the ROM default data back in by itself? Thanks.

ideally repolacing the eeprom with a balnk one would be fine, but there are a few things that cause a problem. first I dont have one, second I'm not sure I can handle the delicate nature of soldering the entire eeprom (couple of wires would be no problem, but trying to get all 8 legs lined up and back on concerns me) and lastly I still dont know which chip is thre prom haha.

If someone can tell me the where it is I will start by reseting and if that still doesnt do it I will order an eeprom and try to get the soldering done as a last resort. I can solder pretty good but definitely dont have surgeon steadiness for small really delicate work

              The service manual may help.

i appreciate it budm, my model is slightly different than the original posters modem, mine is a LNS4041dx/xxa with a BN94-00963E. will the service manual you linked still be ok (im leaning towards no)
I checked on that site that you linked and my model does not come up. Maybe I should start a new thread on the subject as I'm not sure adding it to this one was the best idea as it may cause others confusion also.

Ok so I just got another one of these sets in, exact smae model and exact same symptoms,
All dc voltages from power board are as they should be and i replaced 1 slightly bulged cap but it tested still ok and problem still persists after a new one has been added, I have also tried again with dangs suggested eprom fix, soldered 2 trace wires to pins 5 and 6 then joined them, powered it on then quickly seperated the 2 wires, I got it into standby mode and tried the service menu button combo, TV led fashed when i wass pressing the buttons so was recieving the signals ok, Then when I pressed power it just started to click again.. Are there any other faults i can look for that could cause this fault, Thanks in advance for any help.. ;-)

The only other advice I can offer is to keep trying, I have had this a few times and the first time took many attempts before it worked, I spent two hours on and off before it fixed the issue, good luck, I hope you get it fixed.

Now that's a downer, on the upside you have good parts and are certainly worth keeping for future fixes.

3 years this fix lasted then recently started clicking on and off every 30 seconds or so, tried the eeprom reset again and its working again, So i guess thanks once again dang for showing me this fix.. ;-)

Ok TV back once again, Thin time EEPROM reset isnt fixing it, Ive also now replaced EEPROM along with all possible caps and its still clicking, Someone suggest forcing PSU on using a resistor then letting it run with backlight connected to see if it clicks, I just need to know which type of resistor do i need to buy to force it on, Dont mind buying a board just not sure which one is causing it,

watch back on the same threads list page, for the le40m87 model, you prob. need to replace smd caps on the mainboard, i suggest also to replace the one outside the metal shield, all 1000uF10v. (supposed you have same ma.bo.)

Any 1/4 watt 1k resistor should do... About 3 bucks for 100 of em on fleabay...

It could any board with shorted components (like ceramic SMD caps, or MOSFET for LED supply). I had few Samsung TV's with shorted SMD caps on panels that did exactly that. Disconnect flat cable between panel and tcon board, and see if clicking stops. if not-jumper power supply with logic board disconnected.

You will need two 20cm or so lengths of a fine gauge wire, a thin stereo speaker wire will do, you'll then need to remove your main board and look roughly top left on the back for a small 8 pin IC, it does say eeprom somewhere near it, now counting anti clockwise from the top left find pins 5 and 6, obviously bottom two on the right, you'll need to very carefully solder each 20cm length of wire to each pin making sure not to short them, once done support the wire with some electrical tape and replace the board plugging everything back in. Now the hard part, hold together both ends of the wires then turn on the tv from the mains and at exactly one second release them, the Tv should go to standby, if not repeat the process(this can take a number of times but you might be lucky, this worked on the second time with the last set I did), now simply use your remote to enter the service menu, from stand by press: INFO/MENU/MUTE/POWER, choose option 2 and make sure the settings look something like what you'll find here, post 18: http://www.avforums.com/threads/sams...ch-on.1303522/, you'll also need to go to number 8 and check that the tuner is set to "AUTO", then number 12 to reset your Tv back to factory defaults.

Only press "down" or "up" and the "enter" button to enter the required field and the "return" button to exit back to the previous menu, powering it off will save the settings.

Things to watch for are the HDMI HP DLY, on the last one I did this was way over at 63 causing the third HDMI port to disappear, actually turned out the counter would only go up to 48 or 49 so just a little out, this should be around 9 to 12, also screen type but post 18 of the above web site will help, good luck.
I just wanted to add my experience to help others
I had this clicking sound, led blinking problem on a,LE40R86BDX. One cap was bulged, i have changed it but the relay was still clicking. I have changed all the nearby caps but still no change. Then i have reset the eeprom as suggested and its working! But it is very important to enter the factory menu and perform reset and setup there because until i did it it was reverting back to clicking after unplugging and plugging in to mains again.

So if changing caps does not help then reset eeprom and finally setup factory menu.

Thank you for helping me, i am so grateful )
