    Grub Rescue?

Hi guys:i have run into a problem with my Xubuntu12.04! the other day
when i started up the PC,a Dell pentium4 with Xubuntu installed only OPS,
i Had a black blank screen on boot with< Grub Rescue > tried to use the CD to boot no avail then i tried to reinstall Xubuntu No Avail, then since i keep many CDs different Distros around i tried Linux Mint 14 Nadia i struggled a little bit at first but at second try it booted up then it installed smoothly,
today i was inquiring about this Grub Rescue problem and came across this Blog about the solution, since i did not try it and don't know if it works ,I'd like your opinion on this for a future problem of this arising in the future!

    Re: Grub Rescue?

First, your link to the blog article is bad. You can access it here:

    Howto: Fixing GRUB

Now, that is about re-installing the GRUB bootloader after a fresh Windows install wipes it out. This doesn't seem to be what your problem was caused by.

Did you add or change any hard drives in this system? Did you alter the boot order in the BIOS settings? If neither of these apply, then maybe your hard drive is bad, or maybe just the MBR (Master Boot Record) section of the drive is bad. Either of these mean you should toss it and get a new hard drive.

Probable cause: Multiple drives installed (excluding optical drives) and the installer just went ahead and installed GRUB on the drive that don't have Xubuntu.

This may occur if installing Xubuntu from a USB stick! You need to select another option to have the installer give you a choice where to install GRUB and when you do, make sure GRUB is configured to boot from the drive with Xubuntu installed.
