Sony Bravia KDL-65W850C Red blink 6 times

    Hello all!

    New member here!

I'm trying to see if this can be an easy fix, so far i found the service manual and followed the troubleshooting path a bit.

When I power on the TV, i see "SONY" quickly flash but then it goes back to black. The power light flashes white a few seconds and then red for 6 blinks.

The troubleshooting path had me check the BL_ERR signal and I have 3V so well above the written 1.9v threshold.

Then I verified the Out1 and Out2 voltage and that's where i'm stuck.
When I power on the TV, the voltage jumps to 280V only for a second and then drops to 130v. Then once the red blinking starts, it slowly drops back towards zero. Both Out1 and Out2 do the same.

At this point, I'm thinking it's likely the GL1SB causing the problem by not being able to sustain the voltage high enough. But I'm not clever enough to trace and figure out what component needs to be replaced.
I did probe a few capacitors but nothing obvious came out.

Aside from a few expensive ebay boards, it seems like this board is no longer in stock so i'd really like to repair it as this TV was working quite well just a few days ago!

Thanks for reading and fingers crossed someone has seen this before!

Replacing the backlight will fix your problem.

You mean the actual LEDs? I never thought of that, i guess they could go bad.

The service manual doesn't see to cover those too much.

I'll look into it, i guess if you mention replacing them, I can find those easily?

Thanks to both, I ordered a tool to test the led strips, before i dive further into the panel i'll see if that confirms it.
It looks like it's a major pain to get to the led strips, but not impossible!

The tester arrived today, the verdict is clear.
On Out1 it reads 170v and lights up.
On Out3 it reads 300+v and does not light up.

Clearly a burnt LED on Out2.

Now, I've seen a few videos, looks like a lot of disassembly to get to them, I'll order the LED strips, hopefully this goes well, little nervous!

            Any tips?

it's VERY easy to crack those big screens, seems the bigger they are the more flimsy, keep checking those videos, its a total teardown to get to most backlights, take your time putting it back together, make SURE the screen fits even and flat on re-assembly, maybe take pictures along the way, specially when you run into spots where you say, now how the hell does this come off.

                Watch the corners on refitting.
It's when and where the damage usually happens.
