    PHILIPS 40PFL7007 TV DEAD. D501 testing SHORT on DMM

    Hi guys pls can someone help with this set..
    Tv doesnt not power on.
    No standby light.
    There is a burn mark by the leg of D501 diode.
    The diode tests short in both directions.
    I have been reading this usually means the diode is faulty? As normally would be open.
    I have not yet taken voltages since this is obviously short I would like to replace it.
    Can someone help me with a substitute for this diode since it seems not to be the standard type?

                The diode is not faulty, you also measure the transformer if the diode is still on the pcb. This measurement error is very often made with these power supplies. Measure the diode from the circuit or measure the standby voltage, if it is present then that part is working properly

                    Hi sorry didnt see these replies..Yes just to confirm (before I purchase the part as I am still searching for a UK source with less than extortionate postage)
                    I get a beep in both directions in continuity mode.
                    I am pretty sure this shouldnt be the case..?? Pls confirm this guys..thnx
                    Out of circuit.!

                      YES, diode is shorted, bad, no good.

                                is this in reply of:
                                Measure the diode from the circuit
                                ?
                                So did you measure diode or diode location?
                                And what about the main fuse?
                                What about: "measure the standby voltage", with diode in place?

                                  Hi ,thnx for the replies.
                                  I have been caught up doing other things so only now can I reply.
                                  The main fuse is good which seems strange.
                                  Anyway I have taken voltages with diode still out (it should be safe to turn on the set without this diode for a short time since the diode is for protection?)
                                  Anyway here are the voltages on the psu connector to main board

                                  1= 3.3v
                                  2= 3.1v (yes I now get standby. 2 blinks)
                                  Pins 3-12= 0v
                                  14= 0.4v

                                  Main cap gives me 399v across the legs
                                  C211=3.3v
                                  C201=3.3v

                                  I will measure diode location later today and update. Also voltages with diode put back on the board.

                                        if you keep the test point on the main board, SDM , shorted to ground and insert the tv plug in the mains, then wait some minutes , does the status led blinks? does it make 5long 3 short?

                                          Hi guys!
                                          I searched for the term "dead short" in the forum but no specific thread came up however if I'm just blind and couldn't see the thread talking about this please forward me to that direction.
                                          So my problem is I don't know how to find the source of a dead shorted voltage rail. Dead short = ~0 ohm resistance.
                                          I have two VGAs (HD 4850 and HD 4870), both dead shorted to ground on the memory rail. I have the boardview file for the 4870 and the memory rail consists around ~7892346 capacitors...
                                          I have a bench PSU and if I try to inject voltage the voltage...

                                          by Prott
                                          Hey!
                                          I have a problem with Gigabyte Aorus 1080. The card seems fine (expected resistance on vcore, pex, 5v, 1.8v, 12v and reset) except for a dead short on vmem (FBVDD). It's interesting failure mode, cause usually (in my experience) when memory fails it still retains a few ohms - this one is literally a dead short.

                                          I removed the inductors and tried inject voltage (0.8 V at 6 A) which only seemed to warm up the cables to the card while the card itself didn't show any hotspots.

                                          Is there any way to narrow down the search for a short? I would prefer not to remove...

                                          Extreme High Current & Low Voltage Short Killer ??

                                          Hi Folks

                                          I'm looking for a extreme high current short killer solution for a reasonable cost.

                                          I have an LGA1700 motherboard (ASUS PRIME Z790-P WiFi) where I exchanged the LGA socket already 3 times, and every time after the socket exchange I get a short of power supply lines VCORE (V variable) and VCCIN_AUX (1.8V).
                                          After taking off the socket, the shorts dissappear again.
                                          The soldermask on the socket is already partially demaged from the heat, so I have reconstructed the soldermask by manually painting the missing soldermask parts with a very small top of a...

                                          Hi there,

                                          I discovered this forum through a youtuber who teaches electronic repair. I've been trying to troubleshoot my dad's old PC which is a Gigabyte GA-H61M-USB3-B3 and will not power on. I discovered a dead short on the 3.3v rail at the ATX connector so I used a bench power supply to feed 3.3v into the ATX connector and sunk about 400mA into the board (I hope that's not too much!). I used a FLIR camera to identify the problem area:

                                          The chip seems to be the following, an ITE IT8892E 1108-CXS which seems to be a PCI bridge?

                                          ...

                                          Hello i need help to fix this laptop,at least a discrete to UMA conversion if it's possible.
                                          i took a photo of what i found,NVIDIA gpu side is 100% shorted as i desoldered power line coils and mosfet side is ok.
                                          Even without coils laptop still not power on.Main power rails,bios,1v,3,3v and 5v are present...
