    Re: 42PFL7422D/37 Service Manual Needed

Tricks of the trade. I cut the leads with an Xacto blade close to the chip(lightly and carefully) then remove the leads with soldering iron. The chip was damaged and could not be used again anyways so this made sense. If I planned on keeping this chip, I would apply heat with a very thin iron tip and pry up each lead with dental pick carefully not to damage the pads, traces, or chip. Patience and the right tools is the key.

That would be awesome - I will take it apart again tomorrow night and post it up. I looked in the manual that was posted on this forum and none of them look like the open back of my TV.... SOOOO - I will really like to post it up. Do all of these have the inverters? I found the T-con and wondered if maybe mine doesnt have an inverter. Funny thing is that I can break down an M1A2 Tank and swap an engine in no time flat, but I cant find an inverter board on a TV?

This may come as a surprise to you, but competency in one area doesn't necessarily translate to other areas. I've fixed CRT (vacuum tube and solid state), CRT and DLP projection, and LCD and plasma TVs. I couldn't even open the hatch of an M1A2 unless there were instructions printed on it.

Once you post some pics, and what chassis number you're dealing with, we'll be able to help from there.

Sorry for the delay. We have five kids. The last two are twins and they be babies.....so life has a different pace. Hopefully someone will get this and can help a brother out. Would love to be able to get this one back and running. Here is the pic of the back open. The model number is 42pfl7422d/37
            The chasis is q523.1u. La

            Again. Thank u all

Please do me a favor and re-check the model number. I never worked on a plasma before but I have a feeling that this is one. This would be the first for me, seeing the same model number used for an LCD and a plasma.

There are two white cables comming from the Delta power supply board. One is running to the right and one to the left. If this were an LCD, these cables would be going to the inverter boards.

This is definitely NOT a plasma TV. Once you open one up and see the massive heat sinks on the sustain cards the differences are obvious.

Foreveraltared, When you get a chance, take a good picture of the model number and info tag on the back of the TV case. This would tell us the model and chassis information.

Gentlemen, thank you for taking the time..
Here is the pic of the model info on the back. I am not sure if it is a plasma or not (sounds so uneducated, I know). On the back it says things about LCD warnings and such, but I really am unable to find the inverter boards. SO - here is the info - really looking forward to your advice. Thanks much

Funny, I kept looking for inverter boards but this one does not have separate master and slave inverter boards. It is done on the power supply board. There is a fuse(pink), I think, near the 3 white connectors, near the 3 capacitors. Check this, make sure it's not blown.

whew--- I am just glad to see that I wasn't losing my mind. I will check it out when I get to the house. So, worse case scenario is that I need to replace the PSB? I will look at it when I get to the house, but I cannot tell from the pics where the fuse is. If I cannot find it too (please no), then I will let you know. You are a blessing, thank you for taking the time. I will post up my progress when I have some...
                          Again, thanks!

I doctored up this photo to highlight the area (in red) where the two fuses are. One I am sure of but the other one, near the 3 caps, may not be a fuse. Hard to tell with the photo's limitted range. Also if you can take a picture of the backside(solder side) of that board we can look at the area I marked in green to see if the joints are ok.
Are there any markings on this power board (numbers etc...)?

What are the markings on the black and yellow transformer (highlighted in green)?

I will need whatever you can give me to look up some info on this TV.

Ok. I've given you enough homework for now.

Well, I am going to see if I can get a fuse to replace that one just in case...
                                Any more thoughts?

                                  Re: 42PFL7422D/37 Service Manual Needed

This one has me a little baffled. Without the normal "master/slave" configuration, it's a little harder to localize the problem. The fact that you have sound but no picture tells me that at least most of the power supply board is OK. The glass fuse is OK. Something in the circuit of that huge black and yellow transformer is funky. It seems the output is taken right near there from those two white connectors. One going left, one going right.

                                  What is underneath these heatsinks?

Are there any board model numbers? I really want to see a schematic of this board so I will need this. I think it is located in between the output transformers. I think it starts with "DP "

I'd desolder these caps and check them on a capacitance meter(located in the green box of this picture).

Just based on the size of that transformer, I'd reflow the solder joints on it as well.

So are you saying not to waste my time replacing the fuse?
I will take a pick under the heatsinks...
Also I will look for a model number on the board
Reflow you mean to add solder right? Dont know all the tech terms - been 15 years since Electrical Engineering has even crossed my mind...

I have found a replacement board for 110.00
Is that worth it? Or am I looking at a simple fix with some capacitors and a transformer?

What is the part number of the chip in the green box (above pic) that is connected to the heatsink?

I'm a little shocked that there is no fuse somewhere in the secondary circuit of that huge transformer.
