Sharp Aquos LC-37G4U LCD Distortion

I have a 37" sharp LCD with a image problem. The right half of the picture is fine. The left side has distorted colors (washed out and dark). The images on the left side do not refresh at a normal rate (I.e., when a picture is supposed to diasppear the image slowly fades).

I suspect that the LCD controller (T-Con) board is bad. There are two flex connectors that I suspect controls each side of the picture. Next task is to clean and reseat the connectors.

I was going to buy and study the Sharp service manual. But I thought someone has any experince with this type of problem??

Is there a possibility that the LCD screen itself is defective??

You are correct, but connections is rarely the problem. Find and order a T-CON.

You are a Pro and will do what you suggest. I have been reading your other posts and your recommendations have been very good.

BTW. I am a Newbie to LCD/Plasma repair but have extensive background in repairing electronics of all other types over the years.

I replaced the T-Conn board and got exactly the same problem. Does not appear to be a T-Conn problem. Is it possible to investigate this a little further to isolate to LCD screen??

I now have the service manual with schematics for the TV monitor.

Does it do the same thing using different inputs?

It is not a function of the input. The display anamoly is present with all inputs (I.e., TV tuner and DVD inputs). The OSD also appears to have the distortion as well. Only the left half of the screen is affected.

It still could be main board... Or damaged flex cable. Or panel.

I checked the contiuity of the all flex cables between main board to T-Conn to Panel. Since I have a schematic I will try to probe the lines. It may give me a clue as to where the defect is located.

You cannot probe. The data rate is very high between mainboard and the logic board.

Like I said, you cannot determine the waveforms that is good from bad with LVDS data and this requires 200-500MHz scope. Even my 100MHz can not resolve this.

It is not the panel faulty. Data is rendered in the mainboard and sent to the logic board which analyzes the information and steers the Y buffers and X buffers lines and send data on amount of pixel intensity to both YSUS and ZSUS boards. This for just one subpixel of red. Do the same for green then blue then next pixel groups. And go fast enough to keep flicker down.

The noisy look is what I have previously said before, change either logic board or the mainboard. I'd do the logic board first.

You may have a bad LCD. Ive seen similar problems on 2 sony's and it was the panel itself.

and if thats the case, then it might as well be a cracked panel. serves no difference.
