FYI- I have tested many led strips that all the led's will light up but if there is one weak one in the chain it will still trip a backlight error or emit a quick flash once its hooked back up to the power supply or led driver. Once I get the new led kit in the Tv it works fine. So even if they all light up don't be fooled, just replace all the strips or bars. You'll be glad you did.

Seems that the shim pins of plastic are not been reseated, so the foils falls onto leds..

Now that I've started using the TV, it's apparent the LED's are visible through the picture. I have reduced brightness, white and black levels, contrast, etc to zero without getting rid of the bright spots. I also reset display settings to factory levels. They are dimmer behind darker pictures and stand out clearly behind white.
I did remove all LED strips for testing during the troubleshooting process, and all tested good with a strip tester. I believe I marked all diffuser sheets for correct reinstallation.
Are the brights consistent with a diffuser in the wrong order? Have I overlooked any settings that could cause this?

The photo is the set showing my PC screen thru an HDMI cable. All inputs display the bright spots though.

i repeat: The only board to check before board swapping is the PSU.
Therefore you start by swappng mainboards, then PSU.. no risks

I would agree. I chose to shotgun the entire board set to get a fresh start. The set came with everything inside the chassis including the LED strips and base I wanted. What turns out to be unused I can recoup by reselling.

My question for today is: now that I have a working chassis, do I take a significant risk of damaging the working boards by testing the suspect PS, BAXL, or tuner boards by substitution in the working chassis? (One at a time and using antistatic protection, of course.)

But you does not give enough trust to the forum members...
I'm sad sometimes to read of DIY techs that buys boards with no logic..
105$ on a 40" is too much since you already bought a baxl..
that could subtract a chance to other users that needs by force a substitute board..
I think that following logic of the posts you still have a bad intermittent led problem, so it's a matter of time and your tv will shut down again..
better spend money on new led bars..
when you test leds, without anything on top of leds chassis, put a heavy blanket on it and do some hours of testing, input an antenna signal so tv won't power save shut down, if you see BL die again maybe you find the bad led..

I put this TV on a long hiatus so I could focus on other hobbies like nail gun repair and carpentry.

To address the unknown quality of the TV's symptom I recently bought a used kit consisting of every board, harness and LED strip, even a stand. $105! Replacing the PS, Main and Tuner boards with those from the set immediately brought the TV to life.
After a few days to let it update, burn-in and function correctly I will consider the risk of testing the original and purchased boards I already have, one by one.

I worry that a failure on a bad board, when installed into the working set, might destroy one of its good neighbors. Has this ever occurred while swap-testing Sony TV boards?

Never heard a recent TV repaired with contact cleaner..

You can try to use the tv at limit until leds no more lit up so you will have a steady short and can locate well the faulty led.

Umm, how did you know? Yesterday all LEDs lit and stayed on almost 20 minutes until a power save shutdown.

Today, after careful reassembly of the panel I'm back to green/amber blinks ...."panel id mismatch". And no display-1 second to black.

Green amber flash usually means update needed, you might be going about it wrong, try this: make sure no other devices are plugged into any usb on tv-turn tv on plug thumb drive in with update on it then just watch and see what it does, it may prompt for action it may not if it takes over an hour there's something wrong have to stop, no joy that way then try having tv off-put thumb drive in and hit power button on tv and see what it does, try it with the board that is blinking green and amber if it don't work it could be an error in preparing the thumb drive or incompatible thumb drive possibly.

Turns out the forced update was the wrong road to take. The set shows the familiar red and green LED, meaning "Error of panel id" from the common chassis service manual.

Ignoring that, I went into service mode and actually got the service screen....for about two seconds, then black screen and the six-blink red code. This is a solid, repeatable fault. So the panel does have an issue, probably an LED strip. Ordering an LED tester online.

The right step that can be made is a copy or swap of the settings eprom from original baxl to the new one, in alternative another baxl change, that board is not exactly for your model (different panel)

Time to rename this thread "Annoying KDL-40W600B".

I bought a tested BAXL board off electroparts. (See post #8 in this thread) Installed, the TV only showed a menu once, for a second. The forced firmware update with USB took forever and the USB drive showed no data access. Its' LED never blinked.

I've chatted with Sony tech support. They walked me through a power reset and concluded the TV had hardware issues.

Electroparts sent me an exchange board. As soon as power is connected, the TV standby light blinks continuous green and amber. Other than that, no response to remote, pushbuttons or ^I/O reset. Per one of the chassis manuals, this blink means "panel ID error".

I understand I should go into Service Mode with (Disp)(5)(Vol+)(I/O) to enter the correct model and serial numbers. But with the first main board, there was no picture in response to this key sequence so I got nowhere.

    Solution suggestions?

"There has been no 6-blink code (panel fault)" Correction; 6 blinks =Backlight fault.

The backlight is coming on to illuminate the update icon.
There has been no 6-blink code (panel fault) after I forced the set into updating. It just never finished. I'm going to try again tomorrow with a different USB drive.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

TCL 55S425 few horizontal lines, potential failure on both side of panel/buffer board

All left and right refers to looking from rear of TV (or looking from front with TV upside down)
    • TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
    • Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault

After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.

    Sony xbr-65x900c main board issues?
    by jb_Bak
Hey guys great forum glad to have found it. I bought a Sony XBR 65X900C cheaply because it didn't work. No signs of life at all not even a light/led. All I hear is a brief high voltage sound when I throw the power to it.

Didn't see any obvious signs of damage so right away started checking voltages. This is what I see:
Power Board Connector that goes to Main board

    Pin 01 NC
    Pin 02 NC
    Pin 03 "BL_ON": 0V
    Pin 04 "N/C"

    Pin 06 "GND": N/C
