Hi nomoresonys.. when you say to "look at the back cover without removing" do you mean the stickers on the back of the tv that contain info like serial number?

Thats too much work for the person who owns that tv.

Hi budman. I will get those readings out to you. I ran into an unexpected snag today. All I ask is just a little bit more patience. Thank you budman.

I'm waiting for your test result in my post #20.
Did you read it and understand it?
Did you verify that the meter is good for sure at this point?

If you got a meter working properly, try the tests in post #20, they're pretty simple, the test is on the cold side of powerboard, the HOT/PRIMARY side is the side with the DEADLY VOLTAGES and you MUST be very careful when working in that area, number 2 below shows a video tutorial.

Hi nomoresonys. I hear ya. I'm experienced with replacing parts on laptops and I built my own custom PC if that qualifies me for a "techie." Not completely inexperienced by those standards. It does seem like an easy fix just a matter of dialing in on what part should be replaced.

The tv itself is enticing me to keep it to fix it. The only drivers keeping me from embracing it fully are the viewing angle which gets cloudy and the low brightness level. I want a bright tv not one where I have to struggle to make out images. But if you think these factors are mitigating let me know.

Looks like budman is busy working today. Hope he reads this today and get his input.

The person from whom I want to buy the tv is too weak to bring the tv down from its wall mount. So she cant read off the stickers from the back of the tv. Is there another way to do that?

Hey bud.. and to the rest of the guys. I found a TCL tv (TCL 55R625) with broken screen with same size screen (55") but different model. Is it possible to take the display from my TCL 55S405 and replace the broken one in the TCL 55R625? Will it fit??

Hello to all you guys and bud. So I went out to buy batteries for my multimeter. The store that carries it is closed today sunday but will open tomorrow. Tomorrow I will buy them when they open and will begin testing! Excuse the delay and appreciate all your patience.

Budm is trying to guide you into a procedure of checking the voltages to the LED strips before the delicate and risky task of removing the panel.

Flash of backlights on power up is a symptom of bad backlights and the protection circuit shutting them down. If you remove the panel and record the flash and go frame by frame, you should be able to see with ones are out. Better to replace them all with new to prevent future problems.

Pretty simple to check for accuracy, just take a battery from something that you have relatively fresh batteries in, like a remote control maybe and check voltage, looking for about 1.5 volts.

How did the supe figure out that the meter is working correctly?
Surge protector is not safety device for preventing you from being electrocuted, it is for protecting the connected equipment.
Did you look all the outlets in your house to see if there is GFCI outlet in your house some where, my house is built in 1986 and required to have GFCI for both of my bath room and the kitchen, I do not know how old your house is
When the super handed me the multimeter he said I should swap out the batteries if I encounter poor performance with emphasis to switch it off when not in use. Although the digital read doesnt seem to be fading as an indicator of poor battery, I'm not taking any chances. Most of my house's outlets were checked. I even tested it at my neighbors. Same result. Henceforth I am stamping it as defective.

Regarding GFCI, my apartment building was built all the back in 1906 known as a pre-war building. About 18 years ago the bathroom outlet had trouble and was replaced by the super. I really dont think its GFCI capable but will ask the super if it is nonetheless to be sure.

Will test with the other multimeter tomorrow when i land fresh batteries. Thanks bud!

this tv is throwing me for a loop. do samsung tvs no longer have the backlight self test feature built into the power supply?
i tested the backlight with my LED tester and it lights up both strips. one of them reads 100v and the other reads 63.7v.
unplugged mainboard from power supply but left backlight plugged in, and then plugged psu wall power in. expected to see backlights light up but see nothing.
according to how ive diagnosed in the past, this would almost always be a bad power supply. replacement power supply was cheap like 20$ from ebay. but still i get not even...

    Hi, I have a Samsung UE50TU with:

    - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds
    - it keeps rebooting
    - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
    - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)

iMac PowerPC G4 very low sound • Sunflower Model
    by nickgronk
Just picked up an iMac powerpc for $1 at auction. changed pram. This is working. Problem, barely any sound. I have everything cranked up in software, reset nvram/pram - nada. I do get sound ONLY if I plug in a powered speakers in headphone port. I do not get the startup bong.
I get almost no sound with normal headphones. I mean, you can barely hear it. Took the board out and by eye found these 2 inductors broken. Not sure if they are for sound. Speaker is also plugged in and I tried a normal pc speaker in its place - still zilch. Are these inductors the culprit?
    I cannot find any schematics...

Samsung UN60EH6000F Black Screen, Backlight and Sound Good. Power Cycle Returns Picture
    by Mgiffune
I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and
