I have a Sony XBR-65X850D that shows symptoms of a bad mainboard. From what I hear it is a very common issue with these sets and there are repair services on EBay and other sites for the boards. Is anyone aware of the common failures with the main boards? When you plug in the set, the mainboard commands the power supply to wake up, all of the voltages are there but no sound or picture. I verified that there is no picture.

Does the pilot light turn on at all? If no pilot light, then it does sound like a main board failure.

Easy test to try, with tv UNPLUGGED, test all the diodes on powerboard, meter set to diode mode, with a probe on each leg of diode, should get a reading around .3xx to around .7xx in one direction then reverse the probes should read 1 or OL if you get voltage in both directions or none at all investigate it further, if any read off de-solder or clip a leg and retest out of circuit, sometimes you will get an off reading because of other things on the circuit.Quit because THIS SITE LETS A ROGUE MEMBER TYPE ANY GARBAGE HE PLEASES AND THE POWERS THAT BE NEVER DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT SO HE NEVER QUITS. THEN YOU GET A PENALTY FOR RESPONDING TO HIS ATTACKS. BEEN GOING ON FOR WAY TOO LONG. DONE SUPPORTING A SITE THAT ALLOWS THIS BS.Comment

This sat around for quite some time after the backlights died with the six blink error code. I bought replacement strips and eventually swapped them in.
Backlights appear to be working fine now. However the tv only powers on with the "Sony" logo for about two seconds after which it goes away and the panel with backlights stay powered for about twenty more seconds then it shuts off. Tv can only be powered again after power cycling at the outlet.
It will not program via usb, the stick flashes but there is never any indication that it has entered programming... -
I have a Sony 65A8H. Always bothered me that it doesn't have HDMI 2.1. I noticed the A80J board appears quite similar. And comparing some wiring diagrams in the service manuals (albeit A9G vs A90J since I couldn't find the A8/80 manuals), things appeared quite similar. And my understanding is the panels between the two TVs are more or less the same.
So I decided I'd experiment a little bit.
I bought an A80J board. Left the speaker connection unplugged because it doesn't fit. Changed the power connector to fit the new board. Plugged in everything else.

No standby red light, nothing
This Sony has a separate AC->DC power adapter supplying 19.5V to the TV power board (JK3)
Disconnected JK3 power board from main board, checked voltages on all the pin outs
At a few pins I can see the power supply providing 19.5V to the main board
Based on the service manual triage.. it seems to be pointing towards the power board (JK3) being the most possible culprit

Diagnosed this TV as having a failed main board which I've replaced with one from a KDL 55HX850. They are (supposedly) the same board.
Being 'Smart TV' it requires a firmware reboot when you swap out boards such as T-Con or main board. It starts with a black screen and flashing yellow and green LEDS, indicating it needs that firmware boot.
