you can also test by unhooking the u-cables usually located by the bottom corners and turning on and check display, as mentioned in post #22, sometimes they are not easy to get at, hence trying the tcon ribbon cable removal first, read the whole thread again if needed.

I think it could last much time but some imperfections could be see from one side respect to the other

My question is - what is the life expectancy after doing such a procedure? @MilitaryBrat is your TV still working 3 years later? Thanks
its worth doing if that is what is wrong with the tv, otherwise you just have a tv that is not functional.

Thanks for the advice. I was able to open it up and do some diagnostics over the last couple evenings. The pictures attached is the way I got it. As you can see, its got the discoloration & sluggishness moving right-to-left across the screen like the OP's. The discoloration starts about 1/4 of the way across and gets progressively worse. It produces this interesting "checkerboard" pattern which I assume corresponds to each section that the gold tabs control. Jiggling or pressing on the tab bonds did nothing, none of them appear to be burned or blown, and they seem well connected to the driver board. Just about all of the gold ribbon tabs on the bottom of the screen get extremely hot though. The side tabs on both sides of the screen are cool as a cucumber.
When doing the u-cable disconnection test (one side at a time), it didn't matter which side got disconnected, my result was always a black screen. I was never able to produce an image on either side by isolating that half.
Is it safe to assume that BOTH sides of this panel are bad since I cannot generate an image? Is all hope gone? Thanks

This defect connects to the lack of vgh or vgl signal on one side , the darker one.. sometimes the thin wire bridge trick can fix the thing.. check also youtube for this type of repair

so all the cofs on the side boards look good? could be a bad component or two on the driver board/s, maybe a bad ribbon or lvds cable, maybe clean them and make sure they don't have any bad contacts and are aligned properly. had a tricky bad side cof a while ago, the side of the board thats facing out, the one thats easy to see, you couldnt tell the cof was bad, but when I looked at the other side there was an obvious burnt cof, but on that one I did get a picture when u-cable was disconnected.
