every voltage ive tested has been correct, ive got...
380v on all 4 caps
3.54 on standby
11.99v on the 12v line (p2300)
24.1v on 24v line (p2300)
23.8v on p202

ive just bought the tv, the guy said he had someone look at it and they said the relay (RL101) was faulty and went at it with a screwdriver! he also used a hairdryer to heat something up and the tv powered on for 15 mins then died.

where do i test the control voltages?
to me it seems like a main board fault. the buy who owned it never took the plastic off the back of the tv so it had no ventilation

But you had to force on the power supply by jumping the pin which is not normal, the main board should send the control signal to turn on the rest of the power supply.

ok taken jumpers out and put wires back. after powering on i still have the voltages where they should be. 12v and 24v present on p2300 and 24v on p202

You should start a new thread if your TV model and the boards are not the same as original poster.

when i switch the power on to the tv the lg logo by the ir sensor lights up for a second and the power is there, no pressing buttons to get power. still no relay click.

The relay is turned on by the PS-ON (PWR-ON) signal from the main board, so if he forced the relay contacts to stay close then the 12V and 24V will be stuck on.

But you report P2300 Voltage readings, there is NO P2300 on the power supply board. P201 of the power supply board has a chart printed next to the P201 to tell you what each pin is for. P202 also has pin labels.

No way you can have boosted PFC Voltage and the 12V/24V if the relay is NOT turned on!

sorry was going by the lables on the test sheet i was reading

p2300 is p201 on top right going to mainboard

p202 is on the bottom with the 24v lines

You use wrong ground for the meter, no way you can have 170V on the relay coil.
Look at the Voltage reading of the coil as printed on the relay case.

p202 is on the bottom with the 24v lines

Well, look at that chart, report the readings of the all the pins when TV is off and when power switch is activated.
You MUST put down the pin name and follow by the reading for each pin, you MUST do as instructed.
There are 18 pins on the P201, the ODD pins you can see for then top side of the board, you will have to probe the EVEN number pins form the wire entrance side of the connector. The black triangle mark is for pin 1.

i have the relay open, the power across the coil is showing 173v in and 168v after the coil. the contacts in the relay are not touching and i dont have any voltage on those contacts.

with the relay contacts open i have retested and have 398v on the 4 main capacitors

At this point concentrate on the control signal, the relay is used for inrush protection and it is turned on only when PS-ON is present.
What are printed on the relay cover?
