    Toppro TPR-5000 PVR - TRF-7160 mainboard

Notorious "Service not running or scrambled" problem has gone from intermittent to hard on my Toppro TPR-5000 PVR

So I opened it up to check out capacitors

Seeing all electrolytics were 85° rated, I replaced most with known 105° Japanese, before running out of replacements

Left the others alone, assuming they're reliable polymers

Also left alone the visually OK Samwha electrolytics in the power supply

Gave it a try at that point, still "Service not running or scrambled"

TV has no problem with reception, getting signal from TPR-5000's Antenna Out - also no problem if I simply plug Antenna In and Antenna Out cables together, instead of both into PVR

Next effort was resolder all connections from tuner module (marked DNOT44QZV262A) to mainboard

Easier said than done - whatever lead-free solder was used by manufacturer, it sure is difficult to melt

    After that, I had reception

Satisfaction didn't last long - a day later, "Service not running or scrambled"

So what do I do now?

Give in to planned obsolescence and buy another PVR?

Or think about replacing tuner module? - are these even available?

Here's completed electrolytic recap - Chemicon KY all around

Also recapped come of the Samwha in its power supply after seeing a tip on a Topfield (=Toppro) forum

Then disappointed, although not surprised, still "Service not running or scrambled"

probably more bad caps inside the tuner module?

I tried unsuccessfully to remove the tuner module - 40 soldered connections, plus another 6 fixing legs of its cover to main board

So replacement's not an option for me, even if spare part was available

After that, I unclipped cover in situ, just enough to see inside

No sign of any caps, just a solitary QFP IC

Anyway, moot point now, I bought another PVR today

Does Changing Out Caps In A Tuner Effect FM Reception
          by Mark R
"TQ" Subject at hand is a Marantz 120 tuner. The tuner lit up but no output. Recapped the entire unit. Before it was working fine tuning in Stereo and Mono. Now it just about tunes Stereo and some of the mono stations are weak. Nothing else was changed. When you do hit a stereo station the stereo lamp will come on but flickers as it's trying to hold the MPX signal.

I don't see how bringing the unit back with new caps checked by my Sencore LC103 would effect the FM section. Every Value is as it was from the factory?

          Any Thoughts?

MASTER TL240 and new mainboard LW36BKC01
          by orcic
          Hello,
I have an old MASTER TL-240 LED TV. Since it stopped working and it had a DVB-T receiver that is being dismissed in Italy, I've decided to replace the mainboard with a DVB-T2 one.
The original problem was that when switching on the TV, the power LED was transitioning from red to steady blue, without showing video or audio.
After checking some voltages on the power supply board (HKL-240101-B Rev. 1.4, HKL from now on) someone suggested me to replace the mainboard.
Now I have some doubts about how to connect the new mainboard to the old power supply.

          Samsung PN51F8500AFXZA broke off the tuner's F connector, can't get tuner de-soldered
          by DXseekerMO
I can hear Fred Sanford now...."YOU BIG DUMMY".....I pulled the "F" connector out of the tuner by accident. The tuner number is BN40-00248B. Low and behold I had a scrap board with tuner number BN40-00248A. Although the tuner is different (according to Encompass.com) it's footprint on the board is exactly the same as the 248B so I decided to de-solder the tuner off the scrap board to see what I was getting in to.

As you can see in the picture the terminals and solder pads are super small. No matter what I tried I could not get either the terminals or support...

Vizio M43-C1 - How closely do I need to match the mainboard number?
          by Devonavar
I have a Vizio M43-C1 stuck in a reboot loop with no backlight.

I've tested all the voltage rails coming out of the power supply and they are "normal" for this model (PS_ON & DIM go high when turned on, BL_ON & 3D_ON are close to zero due to backlight power flowing through the mainboard, 5VSB is 5V, and 12V is 19V, which is apparently normal for this board).

Basically, I get similar results to Garry in this post: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=80346

So, I've ruled out the PSU for now.

          The reboot loop...

QN65QN90A - Mainboard MLCC failed - now bootloop
          by l0lhaxz1
          Hi

I have a QN65QN90A which was purchased around launch I guess making it about 1.5-2 years old... had been working fine until a few days ago, simply went black and would no longer turn on (at all). No standby light and no typical PSU relay click etc. Absolutely dead.

Pulled it apart without doing much research first, suspecting the power supply as it had a faint buzz (I guess due to the forthcoming found short), investigated PSU for some time and concluded there was no fault that I could spot with the board removed.

Came to learn after a bit more research...
