    Sony xbr55x850d & 7 Blinks

Had a 4K Sony xbr55x850d come in with 7 blinks after about 1 minute of power on.

Closest service manual i can find is for XBR-49X837C which is an older model, but looks pretty similar. 7 blinks is listed as a temperature error possibly related to IC1400. This is a 6 pin chip marked U9AN. Not able to find a data sheet for this chip. Has 3.3V, Ground, (2 other pins grounded), and 2 likely data/clock lines that are both at 0.5V. I would expect a 3.3v 4.7k(or so)pull up for i2c. Seems likely to be i2c but no clock or data on the lines and that voltage seems very low. 3.6K to ground on those lines.

Anyone happen to have the service manual for this? the XBR-49X837C is not at all the correct board layout, and given the differences im not hugely confident that the 7 blink error code is the same on both models.

Any thoughts on the above ramble is appreciated

Well culprit has been found. Another HDMI switcher. What did i do to deserve this ha.

3.3V supply shorted (20 ohms) to ground through IC. Removed IC, TV boots up, of course no HDMI inputs.

Now time to source this chip. ugg....

Good work on finding the cause of this fault.

In my case it was an HDMI switch IC. Look at the traces coming off the HDMI ports, follow them back to a chip. This is the HDMI chip. Google the part number to confirm it is indeed and HDMI switch IC.

            For the 900E models a 7 blink = Over temperature protection [TEMP_ERR]
            <B/P> Temp. sensor I2C No ACK [TEMP_ERR]

The 900E model main board does not have an HDMI switch IC like the 850D does, goes direct to the main processor chip. If your main processor chip is the issue, might as well replace the board.

SEVEN Blinks---High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.
EIGHT Blinks---Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401 and 402. Intermittent problems ?? This is a great feature. You can also bring up these fault codes ON-SCREEN to see a list of the problem numbers with the abbreviation of the problem and the number of times this problem has occurred. This is slightly different than entering the service mode. To see the diagnostic screen, Press the following buttons:
