Are 5v regulators for tvs interchangeable?

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01M3...JLL&ref=plSrch

Will these fit in place of the k2508? I'm working on a Toshiba lcd tv. I guess I should just buy the k2508?

Wait, what? A K2508 is normally a MOSFET for a switching regulator, a 7805 is a linear regulator IC... are you sure the K2508 is a linear regulator in your situation? I would say you need to get a transistor at least...

      https://www.google.com/search?q=k250...4zBbUg0lDan4M:

Tampatec on youtube called it the voltage regulator and my voltage from the power board coming out of two of these was all over the place.
It says K2508 on the pieces I desoldered

I guess I need to look up the difference between transistors and voltage regulators

Can we see the link to that Youtube?
        1) TV model number?
        2) What is the TV not doing?
        3) Please upload good clear pictures of what we are dealing with.

Re: Are 5v regulators for tvs interchangeable?

K2508 is most certainly a transistor (MOSFET) and is not compatible with a linear regulator. In fact there are many different kinds of 3-pin linear regulators similar to the 7805 (like the 7812, 7915, LM340-15, LT1086CT, etc., etc. all TO-220 cased) but none match a K2508 / 2SK2508.

What do you mean "voltage from the power board coming out of two of these was all over the place"? This would imply a bad capacitor somewhere if taken at face value...

First time using photo bucket. I hope this works.
The voltage on the middle pin of the k5208 was going as low as 1.6 mv I believe.

The tv would try to power on, but took several reboots to come on, until it stopped working all together. None of the caps look bad. Should I be testing their Resistance?

In the pictures I have removed the components I was calling voltage regulators and laid them on top of their place.

Re: Are 5v regulators for tvs interchangeable?

I think I see where the problem is, the device is the TO-220 3-pin device, so it can be Transistor, MOSFET, Rectifier diode, or Voltage regulator IC and the wrong info from the video does not help either.
So OP just does not have enough experience to know what the part he is checking really is and assume that it is regulator as shown in the Video.
So the bottom line is we need the make and model of WHAT he is trying to fix, then we need good clear pictures that show all the boards and how they are connected together first.
Right now we have no idea what he is working on is doing or not doing right.
OP, please up load the pictures here directly.
BTW, in that Video, those devices on that Vizio power supply/Inverter board (Vizio 0500-0408-0530 Power Supply / Backlight Inverter) Tampatec is calling Regulators are actually common Cathode dual rectifier diodes, NOT regulators. I.E. video at 5:19 he shows checking the middle pin of the device for 5V on what he calls regulator (which is not) because TO-220 +5V regulator middle pin is GND! middle pin of the Common Cathode dual rectifier is Cathode, and the designator for that device is DS204 (D = Diode) for the 5V power supply. Same for the 12V and the 24V that are called as regulators are actually Rectifier diodes (DP204, DP205). I wish he makes the follow-up by adding the correction.
Be careful when using YouTube as a guide, you may get the wrong info.
BTW, the correct name for the two long boards on the left and the right as shown in the video are Balancer board.

Re: Are 5v regulators for tvs interchangeable?

So what is the exact problem with the TV? No standby Voltage, no 12V/24V when TV is turned on? Etc.
                      https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...0&d=1523233197

Those two devices are the power MOSFET for driving the large transformer that produce 12V and 24V.

I cannot read the numbers as printed on the barcode sticker to know the P/N of that power supply board.
I suggest you to read the basic troubleshooting TV first to get basic understanding how typical LCD TV works, knowing the basic will help you narrowing down the problem.
