Hello.

I was given a Vizio E701i-A3 and when I turn it on the screen flickers. Video and sound seem ok. Before I open it up and troublshoot, I was wondering if this is a bad screen issue or a board failure. Has anyone had the same issue with this model?

any information would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Depends on what you understand on 'screen flicker'. Maybe tab bonds, clean and reseat all the ribbon cables...
Upload some pictures or a video so we can see something... your description is just way to vague. Does the whole screen flicker, or is it just a part of the screen. Does the backlight flicker or is it the actual picture?

Actually I was a little fast in my explanation. What happens when I turn on the TV is that it will start to flicker (the backlight). Picture is fine to start. Then after 5 minutes I lose all video and sound continues to work fine. Is this a known problem with the screen or more likely a TCON problem?

Any help would be appreciated.

Shine a flashlight into the screen and see if your video is still working. I'm assuming that when you say the picture goes out the back lights go out as well?

Your explanation is still a little vague. By loosing all video you mean the back lights go out? Turn the back lights waay down and see if it will quit flickering and stay on longer.
