    Samsung UN60D8000YFXZA Power Supply clicking

I have a Samsung UN60D8000YFXZA Tv in the shop that I can't seem to pin point what's wrong. When you plug in you can hear a double click from the area of the transformer and the led also has 2 short blinks with no picture. I isolated the boards and did find that if I disconnect the C4201 cable from the main board that goes to the Bluetooth module and the other half goes to the ir sensor and key controller then the power supply doesn't click and Tv turns on fine. I changed the key controller board and still wants to click when its hooked up to the main. We also tried replacing the Main board but same clicking. I unhooked the ir sensor only, still clicks. Unhooked the Bluetooth module only, still clicks, unhooked the Samsung logo light, still clicks. The main board is BN94-04971B. I'm stumped on this guy. Any suggestions?

I'm curious, Is that 3.3 volts going to that board? When disconnected is it stable 3.3 and lower when connected?

I hated to say it but whatever the voltage is for this is probably generated by the power board - maybe then regulated there after but power board is where I'd start.

How did you get it powered on with cable disconnected? Are you getting ps-on command when hooked up?

Yes, I'm getting 3.308v at pin 1 but it seems like something on this connection is affecting the power supply. All power supply voltages look good. The backlights stay on when it's disconnected but won't come on when connected and power supply clicks. It's not the connection from the main to the power supply. The one that is unhooked in this pic is the one that is causing the problem. It goes to a small board that connects to a ribbon cable that goes to the controller board, ir sensor, Bluetooth module, and the Samsung logo light. The wiring harness looks good too. Very strange

Any components on that board, shorted somewhere?

Voltages are when hooked up and clicking.
            Pin 1 3.3 Pin 2 0.56
            3 0.00(0.001 when it clicks) 4 0.686
            5 3.307 6 0.001
            7 0.003 8 0.073

Dskall...that was our first thought so we ordered a new controller board but its still clicking. I tried isolating the other connections by removing them one by one to the ir sensor, controller board, and that Samsung logo light but nothing stops the clicking unless you unplug the whole harness.

Re: Samsung UN60D8000YFXZA Power Supply clicking

I did....on this model is has a separate board connected to a touch sensitive controller with a ribbon cable that goes from the controller to the board on one end and the other end connects to the Main board. Then their is separate wires going to ir sensor, another set going to Bluetooth model, and the other goes to that Samsung logo led. My next guess is to replace the IR sensor and the wiring harness and see if I get lucky. I can't find a service manual for the 60" model. Something is causing a conflict and I've seen IR sensor's do weird things like ruin my ego when it turns out to be the problem the whole time.

Hi, i'm not sure to have understood all comments, anyway i have an ue40f6320 that has a similar problem, i've bought it as broken and the declared fault was "it switches on-off by itself", when i first inserted plug to mains it immediatly started on-off-on-off... then after dismount and some measurements the tv is come back by itself to near fully working state but found out that the wifi doesn't work, not always, sometimes yes for few minutes, the wifi module that is incapsulated in plastic cover is mounted on the tv back and connected to mainb. through a connector similar to your and shared with IR-button bd and Btooth module, i have ordered a new module, but surely your tv has WIFI builtin so maybe your wifi module is also on the back.. try discover and detach it. My module is BN59-01161A, in it i can see only a part of the circuit covered with metal shield, the part outside is a DC-DC converter that has 5V in 3,3v out. If you search in elektrotanya.com "UE60D8000" you find the SM (UE is the European version).

Well after examining the traces on the boards I thought I would try to isolate the problem one component at a time within that connector and harness. I dug through my bone pile of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi modules and BOOM I'll be damned if it wasn't a faulty Bluetooth Module. I found one with the same connector and replaced it and she fired right up. I've never seen a Bluetooth module cause a failure like this but as I examined the traces something just didn't make sense. Just took me 4 hours to find it. Never a dull day in the electronics field. Retirement in Thailand is looking better every day.

You said you unhooked Bluetooth and it still had same problem? I've heard of Wi-Fi causing problems but where found by unhooking.

Interesting, since post#1 says already unhooked Bluetooth. Or did a replacement Bluetooth module when attached resolve the issue, not the unhooking?

Re: Samsung UN60D8000YFXZA Power Supply clicking

Yes, when I first tried isolating the problem by disconnected the connectors on the Main one by one I noticed that when I disconnected the connector going to the controller board, ir sensor, Samsung logo light, and Bluetooth that the clicking stopped and the Tv would turn on fine. When it's hooked up the led on the IR sensor would blink two fast blinks 5 times then pause, then blinks 5 times again over and over with clicking coming from the transformer. This Tv has one of those thin film ribbon cables going from the touch buttons on the side to a separate controller board and then goes out to the logo light, ir sensor and the Bluetooth module. My first thought was to replace that controller board but it didn't help. So I looked at the traces on the board and the Main and noticed that the Bluetooth module had 4 wires. So I unhooked the Bluetooth module, still clicking. Hooked it back up, tried disconnecting just the IR sensor, still clicking. Hooked it back up, and disconnected the logo light, still clicking. Wiring harness looked fine and blood pressure going up so I thought I would try ordering a IR sensor next. It was just a fluke that I thought about seeing if I had one of those Bluetooth modules in my bone pile. I didn't have the exact one but I had one with the same connector and gave it a try and low and behold the damn Tv fired right up. So apparently there is a voltage feed through the Bluetooth module that has to be there in order for the Tv to operate properly. This is the first time I encountered this problem and it was definitely a learning experience. The new Bluetooth module was only $11. Now let me kick that Samsung's engineer butt that designed it that way. Anybody ever seen a fast track bulletin on this problem?

Are you so gentle to say to the community the BT module part number? In my tv BT module is 10 wire, the WIFi is 4 wires.. I think yours is a WIFI module.
The behavior described finds analogy to my case, i have tried entire tv first and it does ON-OFF-ON-OFF, then i have detached back cover with all its services, retried and again ON-OFF-ON-OFF, retried too and tv strarted normally; i found in the service menu a subitem that shows a list of errors, maybe in theese last Sams models it is somethig like All times Sharp's that with an error in memory it won't boot, but if the software don't detect more a fault condition the error is deleted or shifted in the stack and the next time the tv boots up.. (it's my opinion)..

Can it be due to lockup communication line, RESET LINE between BT (or WIFI) and the processor that lock up the TV, or the power supply line is loaded down? Need to look at those pins and see.

I've found that the 2 antennas on WIFI module are shorted/connected to gnd, it's normal?? This module is refferred on S.Manual as USB module, so like an internal USB dongle..

Re: Samsung UN60D8000YFXZA Power Supply clicking

Davi.P to clarify this model has 4 sets of 2 for a total of 8 pins going into the Bluetooth module. The Wi-Fi has it's own dedicated line coming off the Main. It's part number BN96-17107A. When in doubt I follow BudM's advice and follow the traces so I cracked it out of the plastic case and saw it has test points but I wasn't sure how to test it. I see copper pads on the bottom as a possible ground point and then tp 1 and tp 2 but have no idea what voltages should be there. Here are the front and back pictures. The actual pins are very close together and my blind worn out old eyes makes it tough to test hooked up so I didn't delve into it too much after I saw the other Bluetooth I had worked. I found sometimes it's best just to leave well enough alone before I get to nosey and fry something else out especially when it's a $11 part. So save those BT and WF modules when you part them out because nowadays it well very well be the only problem shutting the TV down. Thanks for all your help and suggestions. Love this forum.
