    RCA led42c45rq no picture, unable to turn off

    i'm trying to fix this tv for a friend of a friend, but i have never seen a problem like this before and have no idea where to start.

    The tv, according to a manual i found the red led is standby and goes out when turned on. When i plug in the tv the red light comes on and i get 13.5v (too high?) at the 12v pins and 5v at the 5v pins. the backlight connector is showing 60v and the panel does not light up. i have tried the flashlight method, but nothing on screen that i can see (no dim flash of any sort, either). I am unable to turn the tv back off as pressing the power button does nothing and has to be unplugged and plugged back in to go back to standby.

    the caps all tested good on the power supply board. (first thing i checked).
    so what i think i am looking at is a bad backlight and mainboard but that is mostly just a guess. i'm stumped. multiple seemingly unrelated problems?

      check the DC voltage of the PS-On and the BL-On pin on the PSU. I am thinking you may have a main board problem only. However if there is proper voltage on the BL-On pin, then yes, you have a backlight problem too. So check those voltages and report back.

          looks like i missed a section of text. the above voltages are specified with the tv on (red light off).
          with the tv off (red light on) the only voltage is the 5vsb.

          with the tv on the ps-on is 4.6v and bl-on is 5v.

              It looks like you have at least 2 problems. PSon and BLon are there, but no back lights. So there is something wrong with the wiring or most likely a bad LED that needs to be fixed first. The not being able to turn off problem is a main board problem.

                          It's only a problem with TV's that have led backlighting. Which is all of them now!
                          I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

                              Yes it's a 17 year old Panasonic plasma!

                              I was watching TV when there was a huge lighting strike nearby my house that shook the house. When that happened, the picture on the TV froze and the TV wouldn't turn off except by pulling the power cable. Now if you plug in the TV, it seems to turn on (it makes the turn on "clikcs" it always does, the red power light comes on but there is no picture, although I can see the back light around the edges.                               Hello, i have some issues with my laptop Lenovo Y700-17ISK (motherboard BY511 NM-A541), it started when i turn on the laptop, but the lcd wont turn on, i then connected it via hdmi to tv and screen was ok. So i thought maybe lcd stripe is faulty, i removed the bottom cover, disconnected main battery, reset the cmos by disconnecting battery for 1 min, then slighty move the lcd stripe.                               I have both these laptops that appeared to have the same fault so I thought I would have a go at replacing the PCH as something to learn, they both are using the same PCH.


                              I started on the ACER:

                              Up on connecting power no signs of life but current is consumed from the bench power supply and the PCH is hot.
                              All the caps on the top of the PCH are showing 0 ohms and the 3.3v rail is shorted.
