Vizio M701d-A3 Horizontal black line issue

Purchased this TV on a whim off of Craigslist, before I did much research on it. There are three horizontal lines on the screen. Before I scrap it, I figured I'd check here to see if it's fixable. I've taken out the boards, and cleaned them, as well as the ribbon cables. Have also tried to twist the TV to see if the lines would go away, but no luck. From what I've read, it seems like a panel issue, but wanted to confirm here.

Any & all help is appreciated.

    See next post for pictures.

    Pictures attached

Sorry guys, no idea how the second picture came in upside down.

There is also a 3rd line at the very top of the screen. Hard to see, with the black at the top. That one goes all the way across the screen, unlike the other two.

well, since you purchased before "researching", now you can do that... :-)
your problem is a "standard panel issue" with the side tab drivers. They are not repairable BUT the set can be SAVED. Search the forum for the many threads on this type of set (vizio 70 and equivalent sharp which is maker of the panel). Lots of people have achieved a working set again by removing the tabs along one side.

I figured for $100, it was well worth it. I will search for those. I did try to press on the sides while it was on, but nothing happened.

It will likely be $100 well spent... :-) good luck, proceed carefully. "twisting" the panel usually doesn't help with this issue.

I'll check on it once I get home. I'm finding a little bit of information, but just to clarify, i'll be removing (disconnecting) a ribbon cable from the side of the TV, correct?

Ok, so I went ahead and removed the side tabs, but I've got a new issue. The top line is still there, which isn't a huge deal. The main problem now is the middle of the screen is significantly more dim than the rest of the screen. Any ideas? Pictures in next post.

@Hamm Did you resolve the horizontal line issue? If so, what fixed it. This issue just presented itself to me last night and looking into troubleshooting and repair options. Thank you for your help!

@budwich I have the same model as is listed in this post. Do you think I should try the tab removal to correct a horizontal black line issue. It is a about 5 pixels high and runs from the right to left of the screen fading out at about 95% of the screen running. It is positioned about 4 inches from the top of the screen. Let me know. Thank you for your help!

Good chance it is a problem with the side... BUT I would do some visual checks on the side tabs to see if you can confirm that something is up with the ones that you "suspect".
Pulling the tabs is a "one way street" with no going back.

Good point! I will be sure to do that before proceeding. Is it possible to pull the front bezel and perform the checks with it mounted or do I need to remove the back cover to properly check? Here is an image showing what I am experiencing on the screen. Thank you again for you help and insight!

MacBook Air A2337 (820-02016) USB-C Port Issue – Only Works in One Orientation (CC Line Problem?)
                          by rounin
                          Hi everyone,

I'm working on a MacBook Air 2020 (A2337, board 820-02016) and running into a strange USB-C issue. I've gone through quite a bit of testing and part replacement, but I'm stuck — hoping someone here can shed some light.

                          🛠 Original Issue
                          The machine initially wouldn't negotiate 20V over USB-C — stuck at 5V.
Diagnosis showed PP1V5_UPC0_LDO_CORE shorted to ground.

I replaced U3100 (UF400) using a donor board (A2179), and the machine powers on fine now.

⚠️ New Problem: One USB-C Port Only Works in One Orientation...

Vizio E701i-A3 fixed but now has red vertical line
                          by otaku_nut
Hi all, I tried searching the site for answers but I'm a bit over my head understanding some of what might apply and what doesn't, so please be patient with me. I used Freakaftr8's fix to remove the left driver board to restore picture to a black screen with sound Vizio E701i-A3. After doing so, I now have a large red vertical stripe down the center of the screen. The fix did require getting another t-con board from online, I ordered it before I knew about the mosfit fix for the old t-con board. I have tried cleaning the cable connections to the t-con board. I swapped the cables going from...

Samsung UN50TU8000FXZC shows thin horizontal green line when warm
                          by cubytus
                          Hi to all,

I was given this TV, an entry-level 4K 50" set. Some have criticized its lack of contrast and relatively poor colour rendering, but for my needs, it's very decent.

I reset everything to factory settings, but this line keeps on fading in and out when watching a streaming channel from the Tizen firmware. Interestingly, it only happens when TV is warm, after about 1h45 of it being turned on.

Watching a movie from an external source doesn't trigger the line as easily (needs 2 hours), and from a normal viewing distance, is hardly noticeable. It...

                          Vizio m601d-a3 backlight issue
                          by Mectronik
Hello, I'm working on a Vizio m601d-a3 with a backlight issue that I am having a difficulty diagnosing it. As it sits, the tv powers on, displays the Vizio symbol and with nothing hooked up it will then display no signal but you can only see half of the screen. I know it's a back light issue because the picture is there without light behind it, as I can see it by doing a light test. I've taken off the paneling and done a visual inspection. If I disconnect the tcon ribbon cable to the affected side then the entire half of the screen goes away. I've checked voltages at the LED driver from the main...

Nintendo 2DS SD Card Reader issue. Problem on the clock line?
                          by Technomancer
I have a 2DS that I am working on that has a problem reading SD cards. It knows that card is in the slot (which, means the detect pin is working anyway) but it says it can’t read the card.

Here is what I have done so far:
-Tried SD card in another 2DS and on PC, works great.
-Tried piggybacking another SD card slot (just so I didn’t have to take the other one off), same issue.
-Compared voltage drop readings from a working 2DS to the faulty one. All reads are very close except one, the 7th pin from the left, with the pins closest to you, which I believe...
