Re: Nintendo 2DS SD Card Reader issue. Problem on the clock line?
Ok, I don't have a solution for this problem, and never will as I have to return the unit. Here is what little extra info I've gathered in case this helps anyone later:
The 2DS and 3DS use ARM11 and ARM9 processors. The ARM9 processor is (at least in part if not in whole) responsible for SDIO from the WiFi module. It would stand to reason that it too is responsible for the SD Card SDIO data as well, though I'm sure the ARM11 is more than capable of handling it. A very old release of data for the 3DS,...

Re: Ps3 Fat 60 gb RED LIGHT
The correct way to diagnose PS3 YLOD (it briefly flashes yellow before going red) is with the syscon diagnostic method using a USB to TTL converter, soldering a few wires to specific test points on the board, and using a wonderful script someone wrote to connect to the syscon and get it to spit out error code.
This guy's video is a little long but between the video and the items he has in the description, it should get you everything you need to get the syscon to spit out the error code for you. Once you get the codes, you can go here to...

Nintendo 2DS SD Card Reader issue. Problem on the clock line?
I have a 2DS that I am working on that has a problem reading SD cards. It knows that card is in the slot (which, means the detect pin is working anyway) but it says it can’t read the card.
Here is what I have done so far:
-Tried SD card in another 2DS and on PC, works great.
-Tried piggybacking another SD card slot (just so I didn’t have to take the other one off), same issue.
-Compared voltage drop readings from a working 2DS to the faulty one. All reads are very close except one, the 7th pin from the left, with the pins closest to you, which I believe...Last edited by Technomancer; 06-07-2022, 09:14 PM.

Re: Playstation 2 PSU zener diode values (ZD1 and ZD3)
I did some measuring the morning and saw 11.5v across the C3 cap. I also measured all the pins on the DAP002 and came up with the following:
1: .056v
2: .071v
3: .005v
4: .065v
5: 5.46v
6: .036v
7: 0v
8: 11.5v
9: 11.5v
10: .001v
11: 0v
12: 0v
13: .080v
14: .858v
15: 0v
16: .074v
I can't say I have used a series light bulb limiter before. Is it just a test light that will start flashing if there is intermittent voltage...

Re: Playstation 2 PSU zener diode values (ZD1 and ZD3)
Ok, I finally got the parts in for this power supply. As I mentioned before, it needed the 2 15v zener diodes (ZD1 and ZD3), the Q1 MOSFET (K2545), a new main fuse, and the .27 ohm resistor R18 (between ZD1 and ZD3 in the top down picture). I powered up the supply and of course it still has issues. The drain of the Q1 MOSFET is getting 170v, which is good (I think) but the gate pin reads 0v. I checked the R9 (20ohms in circuit), R11 (30.8k ohms in circuit), and R15 (2k ohms in circuit) and they don't appear to be blown. Pin...

Re: Nintendo 2ds xl blue ligth no image
Is this your unit or one you purchased? I've read mention of failed homebrew attempts that have bricked 2DSs and caused the blue screen. You could try to enter recovery mode by holding L+R+A+D-pad UP then hitting the power button. Sometime it's easier to hit the power button with a pencil in your mouth while holding all those other buttons down good (or so I've read).Last edited by Technomancer; 02-18-2022, 11:09 PM.

Re: PS4 motherboard LEDs purpose?
If those are the LEDs I'm thinking about, they light the clear plastic insert in one of the covers as part of showing the unit is powered on. Notice the white light between the two top covers in the attached image....

Re: Nintendo Switch drains battery in 2 days when off
I have a switch that has the same issue that I haven't gotten around to looking at. Back when I was doing digging on the top of repairing these things, one user who was pretty good at fixing them mentioned a fuel gauge IC that would go bad and possibly cause issue with the battery draining. I don't really have any more info than that but hopefully it gives you something to look into. A quick Google search says it's the MAX17050 chip.

Re: Nintendo Switch : Charging only in standby mode
I've heard mention of a fuel gauge IC that can cause issues when I was working on switches when I got started with this hobby. Don't know what that IC actually is so unfortunately I can't be of much more help there but hopefully it gives you something to research.
Edit: a quick Google search says it's the MAX17050 IC.Last edited by Technomancer; 02-18-2022, 10:43 PM.

Re: Sony Phat PlayStation PS2 power supply repair
I would definitely check the fuses in the unit. I have one now that has a strange issue that I posted in another thread but while I was trying to diagnose it by playing around with swapping lasers, I blew the laser controller IC and the 2amp fuse that is next to it. I could tell it was dead because the larger SMD cap near the edge of the board was shorted to ground and it is right next to the laser/drive control IC (in my case it was a BA5815FM). Removed the IC and the short went away. Replaced it and the 2amp fuse...

Re: Playstation 2 PSU zener diode values (ZD1 and ZD3)
I appreciate the help with this one! I'll double check those resistors but I'm pretty sure they all measured ok when I looked at it a week or so ago. Certainly couldn't hurt to replace those caps while I'm at it as well as you suggested. I'll let you know how it goes once I get those components in from Digikey/Mouser.
Sorry about the photos. I didn't realize that I could upload them so I just linked them earlier. A couple of other forums I was on a while ago didn't let you upload things so I had gotten in the habit...

Playstation 2 PSU zener diode values (ZD1 and ZD3)
I am attempting to repair a PS2 PSU that died a horrible death when the Q1 mosfet shorted. There are 2 diodes that I believe got taken out along with the main fuse when that mosfet went, ZD1 and ZD3. From the searching/reading I've done on the topic, ZD1 can look like its failed when a continuity check is done in circuit as there is a .25 Ohm resistor in parallel with it. I'll pull ZD1 out of circuit to check it to be sure. ZD3 I'm pretty sure is gone as its showing a 0 voltage drop on my meter in both directions. (Just pulled and checked them both and they are blown).
Does anyone...Last edited by Technomancer; 02-11-2022, 03:58 PM.

PS One (SCPH-101) disc reading issue
Hello folks,
I have an SCPH-101 console with a bit of a strange issue. The unit doesn't want to read discs. Now that in itself isn't all that strange as the lasers in these things often go bad. What is strange, however, is that when I take the laser assembly from this unit and put it in a known working console, it works just fine. Also, when I try the laser assembly from the working unit in this broken one, the disc spins and the laser moves up and down but doesn't really do much else.
One thing I noticed is that it doesn't want to read even audio CDs until I turn the...Last edited by Technomancer; 11-29-2021, 02:20 PM.

Re: Xbox One won't power on. Missing 5v
None of the pins on mosfet seem to be connected directly to ground. S1 seems to be connected to ground via those 2 capacitors just above it and slightly to the right (C4B12 and C4B13). The resistance to ground on all the pins on the mosfet read in the kilo or mega ohms though so it doesn't seem to have a short....

Xbox One won't power on. Missing 5v
Hello folks,
I have an Xbox one that I am trying to get working for a friend that won't power on. After doing some probing around the board, and with the help of this nice standby voltage diagram I found, I think I narrowed the problem down to the MOSFET marked as U4B4 on the board. I've attached a picture of the MOSFET that someone pulled from a data sheet. Its an Si4501BDY-T1-GE3(data sheet hyperlinked). Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hello folks!
I am an amateur repair tech (mainly doing this a hobby) that is focusing on game consoles and some theater lighting equipment. Being very new at this, I'm sure I can learn a lot from some of the seasoned veterans here. Thanks for some of the help in advance!
