    Vizio m601d-a3 backlight issue

Hello, I'm working on a Vizio m601d-a3 with a backlight issue that I am having a difficulty diagnosing it. As it sits, the tv powers on, displays the Vizio symbol and with nothing hooked up it will then display no signal but you can only see half of the screen. I know it's a back light issue because the picture is there without light behind it, as I can see it by doing a light test. I've taken off the paneling and done a visual inspection. If I disconnect the tcon ribbon cable to the affected side then the entire half of the screen goes away. I've checked voltages at the LED driver from the main board and from I can deduced the voltages are fine however I cannot figure out how to test the LED driver. I also can't seem to find any literature explaining test steps or a pin out, as the pins aren't labeled on the board itself.

I am an experienced automotive mechanic and have the tools I would need to diagnose and repair however I'm not as experienced in this field as much as I would like to be. I would also like to ask for any additional information to learn more about. I've seen the FAQ and found the PDFs however they are broken.

    Thank you in advance.

    Re: Vizio m601d-a3 backlight issue

Generally you can use a LED tester. They are a bit safer because if you short them it usually doesn't do any damage. Then you test the line to the lights and try and light them up. The tester will tell you if you have a short.

So just to confirm, the half of the screen with no light has the full picture behind it correct? It's not cut off exactly down the middle? If that's the case your LEDs are bad and you just need to replace them. If the power board is lighting up half and both sides voltages are the same (to rule out power board, which pretty much is already) on the power board then you definitely got a light problem.

LED tester would just confirm this, but you just need to replace them.

Lookup changing LEDs using shop jimmys videos. They will help you to learn. The whole tv has to come apart, and it's pretty easy to damage the screen/ribbons on the screen if you aren't careful so I'd watch them.

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
      by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

      Assuming...

Vizio M65Q7-H1 Red Vertical Strips fixed by tape blocking LC1 signal to half of the panel
      by howardc64
      Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

      Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

TCL 43S435 NO BACKLIGHT ISSUE, LEDS TEST OK
      by thetonywarren
I have a TCL 43S435 with no backlights. I contacted ShopJimmy and they said power supply. I got replacement power supply, but still doesnt work. I have confirmed that there is an image with flashlight test. I have also verified that the led strips work when I probe them with LED tester. Any ideas would be helpful. I am also geting a double blink on the status led when trying to turn it on......Nothing on the power supply looks suspect, and caps look ok. Where should I start to test......Thanks!...

      LED light issue
      by ntec
Hi, I'm trying to fix my buddies rechargeable led work light made by olight and the model is odiance. For some reason now after a couple years of no issue, when powered off now, the led is faintly lit on 3 of the orange rows but as you can see from the first pic that's not where the leds are. The part that is faintly lit is beside the leds? Anyone know how that is possible? Is there small voltage still coming in somehow? The third pic is with the cover off....

      Vizio E65-E1 strange image issue
      by remmurdmd
Hi everyone. First new thread here. I picked up a TV on the side of the road. It appears to function correctly with the exception of an image issue I'm unable to describe. I've searched for “double picture” and “double image” all over the web and all I get is repair videos for when the picture is blurry and the connections are getting interference between the display panels and the t-con board. I believe this is a t-con board issue, but I haven't found anything telling me conclusively that this is where my issue is. I'd appreciate any assistance you can provide. I live a pretty busy life...
